In this special step-by-step episode, Mark shows off the manufacturing process of a range of bespoke precast concrete structural ground beams. At over 12 metres in length, these beams required a specialist engineered solution inclusive of a bespoke made glulam beam mould. Concrete Ground Beams are designed as an alternative to in-situ poured foundations and support brick, blockwork or steel frames. They can be used to form a permanent shutter to the edge of an in-situ concrete floor slab and are generally square or rectangular in section; however, notches, sloping faces and end details can be incorporated into the construction if required. Winder or 'Dog Leg' stairs are narrower on one side than the other. They are used to change the directional travel without the need for additional landings, perfect for use in townhouses where space is limited.
