A mortice lock is a type of door lock that is installed inside a cavity on the edge of a door. The mechanism of the lock is a combination of a latch and a deadbolt. The latch is operated by a doorknob or lever handle and the deadbolt is operated by a key. When the key is turned, the deadbolt extends from the lock body and enters the strike plate in the door frame, providing additional security. Mortice locks are commonly used in residential and commercial applications where a higher level of security is required.
