Biomac blankets are used for surface erosion protection and provide immediate protection to vulnerable slopes to the effects of erosion such as wind, rain and surface run off and placed onto topsoiled and seeded slopes.
FlexMat DT is used as a rapid deploy barrier for flood protection raising embankments and providing buttressing suppport for temporary works. The mesh is reinforced with vertical steel rods and internally lined with a non-woven geotextile sleeve.
Maccaferri Gabions are cages which are engineered from double twisted hexagonal woven steel wire mesh with numerous uses and are typically used to form flexible, permeable and monolithic structures such as retaining walls, channel linings, hydraulic control structures and erosion protection. Maccaferri Jumbo Gabions are used on large scale civil engineering products and identical in concept to our regular gabions. Our gabions can also be used for streambank stabilization, restoration and erosion products.
Green Reef and Greensonic are a new concept of noise barrier. Both systems support numerous plant species which can suit the particular enviornment in which the barrier is to be placed.
Maccaferri have a broad range of drainage geocomposite for geosynthetics drainage systems, are efficient and can be applied to several situations.
Our MacGrid are deformed or non deformed grid like polymeric material formed by intersecting ribs joined at the junctions. The fundamental working mechanism is by friction. In the extruded grids a confining effect over the soil particals that lodge in the openings of the grid itself can be taken into account.
MacMat are made of synthetic material filaments to form a highly deformable layer and can be used on slopes, along the banks of canals and river courses.
MacLine is a very low permeability bituminous geotextile membrane liner or barrier.
Terramesh is an environmentally friendly modular system used to form vegetated faced soil reinforced slopes and embankments.
Maccaferri MacRes system has been developed to create vertical concrete faced soil reinforcement structures. It is used extensively in infrastructure, mine works and anywhere that requires a vertical faced structure capable of resisting high loads.
Maccafferri MacWall is a segmental blockwork retaining wall system. Segmental block retaining walls are increasing in popularity due to their ease of construction, cost-effectiveness and versatility.
Our Reno Mattresses are units manufactured from double twisted hexagonal woven steel wire mesh and are divided into uniformly portioned cells. The Reno mattresses are filled with stones at the project to form flexible, permeable, monolothic structures such as river bank protection and channel linings for erosion control projects.
Maccaferri Road Mesh is planar grid material used for the structural reinforcement of asphalt pavements and provides lateral restraint to the asphalt, improving resistance to rutting and extending fatigue life, minimising disruption through pot-holes and resurfacing works.
Maccaferri Rockfall Barriers are designed to catch falling rocks and boulders before they fall onto infrastructures or other developments. They are supplied in a kit form with all components (except ground anchors).

Creating a solid foundation for economic development in East Sussex
The construction of a new link road in the “Growth Corridor” above Bexhill-on-Sea will lead to a boost in business and housing development.
Nearing completion, the North Bexhill Access Road is a crucial part of the wider development plans of the Bexhill-on-Sea area by opening access to future employment and residential land. Our soil stabilization solutions have supported the project by providing reinforcement across key areas of construction.
The area around Bexhill-on-Sea, in East Sussex, is currently undergoing a large-scale economic development programme – a major part of which is the nearly completed North Bexhill Access Road. The 2.4 km link road will open access to large areas of development land for new businesses, houses and farms, helping to stimulate growth and create new employment opportunities across the region.
Beginning work in 2016, client Sea Change Sussex and contractor Breheny Civil Engineering have relied on the reinforcement power of Maccaferri’s soil stabilization solutions throughout the project.
Across two phases of development, soil road embankments have been constructed using Paralink® geogrids, which have provided both basal reinforcement and a reliable load transfer platform.
MacTex® W2 geotextile was used to create a stable working platform for the mobile cranes and piling rigs on site. Applied directly to the wet subgrade, this high-strength polyester woven geotextile performs both reinforcement and separation functions, making it ideal for the soil make-up of the Bexhill site.
The site’s haulage roads and carparks were stabilized using MacGrid® WG geogrids. Engineered to be mechanically and chemically durable, MacGrid® is finished with a protective polymeric coating, making it resistant to biological degradation.
Mega structure to support economic growth in South West England
The development of the M49 junction near Bristol will unlock crucial employment land and reduce congestion for nearby businesses
A new junction being built on the motorway linking the M4 and M5 is set to attract new business by easing access to the highway network and opening up Europe’s largest brownfield site. Maccaferri is supporting the project with its Green Terramesh, Paralink and MacWall solutions.
The development of the M49 junction is the first Road Investment Strategy scheme to start construction in the south west of England. It is one of six planned multi-million-pound road projects aimed at boosting the economy, tourism and heritage in the region. According to Highways England, the new junction will open up Europe’s largest brownfield site for employment land, contributing to economic growth and easing congestion, and has the potential to deliver 14,000 jobs for the area.
Located near Bristol, the construction will feature a two-bridge junction, incorporating an existing bridge on the site, with a second bridge being built immediately next to it. They will join into a single roundabout that spans the motorway. New access and exit slip roads will be built on both sides of the motorway junction, connecting it with both northbound and southbound traffic. The new bridge will also include a dedicated lane for pedestrians and cyclists.
Two road stubs will be left on the newly completed roundabout to connect the junction to the local road network, supporting future development in the area.

Maccaferri worked with main contractor Galliford Try and main designer ARUP to propose the most effective solutions for the project. The final design includes back-to-back soil reinforced slope embankments using BBA Green Terramesh (20,300 m2 face), combined with a BBA Paralink reinforced basal platform. This basal platform will be formed with various grades of Paralink (from 200 kN/m to 1,500 kN/m), using a total of 58,000 m2 of high-strength geogrid.
The two bridge abutments have been designed using BBA MacWall, achieving a total of 400 m2 and a maximum height of 10 m.
