Control Systems
Our brand new OMNIE TOUCH smart thermostat delivers precise zone control of underfloor heating circuits. The large full colour LCD capacitive touchscreen display and ultra-thin profile not only mean that the device looks great in any home, but also ensures the programme menu is simple to understand and easy to use. A remote sensor is also available to create a partner zone (such as en-suite) or measure the temperature from a different location to the touchscreen. Our new controls are very easy to setup and have identical electrical connections to industry standard thermostats making them a clear choice for underfloor heating applications. The OMNIE TOUCH is available from mid 2018.
Ventilation & Heat Recovery (MVHR)
The ComfoAir-Q from OMNIE pumps clean and fresh air into your building whilst removing stale used air in the process. Maintaining good air quality is achievable with a OMNIE comfort air system which utilises Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery (MVHR). The OMNIE MVHR system has the ability to filter pollen and dust as standard, in addition to this, we have the options to provide some protection against harmful air pollutants.
With an average family producing 18 litres of water every day, regulating this humidity is possible through the OMNIE MVHR system. High levels of humidity can lead to health issues if mould occurs on cold surfaces and there is poor ventilation. One of the main benefits of the OMNIE solution is that it will extract more moisture over a longer period then compared with a conventional intermittent ventilation system.

Heating specialist picks TorFloor 2® for own refurb project
One of the founding partners in an Exeter based heating company has opted to make use of OMNIE’s latest and most advanced underfloor heating system during the refurbishment of his own home along with two other products from the extensive range.
Jack Butt set up DC. Plumbing & Heating seven years ago with business partner, Michael Clapp and has built up a strong reputation working with builders doing high end refurbishment and new-build projects across Devon and Cornwall. The MCS registered firm has completed numerous commercial as well as residential projects where the OMNIE underfloor systems have helped them to optimise the performance of air source heat pumps.
Jack’s own home is a 1960s semi-detached, three-bedroom house that is being completely stripped out and refitted, as well as having a ground floor extension constructed. Connecting the various zones of the new TorFloor 2 system to the building’s heating circuits, one of OMNIE’s six branch manifolds has been installed in a utility cupboard.
Jack Butt commented: “As with the original TorFloor which we’ve used extensively in our work over the years, TorFloor 2 offers ease of installation: avoiding the need to lay a separate chipboard deck across the floor joists. Being able to install a panel, which has the routed grooves ready to receive the heating pipe, is a real advantage and also represents a low-build solution which can be very important in retrofit situations; while it’s also a fairly speedy process. As well as the TorFloor 2 we are also going to be laying OMNIE’s Staple system within the new extension which is still being built, while the existing parts of the ground floor will have ULTIMATE 2 laid over the prepared substrates. We have in the past also fitted the company’s Zehnder MVHR and different controls for a whole-house system. Whatever we are doing, we always find OMNIE’s sales and technical people very helpful.”
While many in the industry believed that the original TorFloor panel represented the optimum in terms of integrating underfloor heating pipes into a quick-to-install structural flooring panel, UK based manufacturer OMNIE has taken both the practicality and the performance to a new level with the introduction of TorFloor 2®.
The new generation TorFloor 2® evolves from the market-leading TorFloor ® predecessor by adding a 6mm thick chipboard upper panel with pre-foiled aluminium heat diffuser. Crucially both panels feature matching routed channels to perfectly align around the 12mm water pipe, while the printed upper face clearly indicates the pipe’s position and the points where screws can be safely fixed.
Not only does this arrangement greatly reduce the risk of the pipe runs being accidentally damaged when floor coverings are installed or replaced, but the location of the routed channels places the warm water pipes closer to the surface: delivering faster warm-up times.
This design means that an output of 50 W/m2 can be achieved with a flow temperature of 410 Centigrade, making TorFloor 2® ideal for coupling with the air or ground source heat pumps offered by OMNIE, while a 500 Centigrade flow will raise the output to 84 W/m2.
OMNIE WHOLE-HOUSE SOLUTION FOR DEVON BARN CONVERSIONS
OMNIE WHOLE-HOUSE SOLUTION FOR DEVON BARN CONVERSIONS
The conversion of three stone-built agricultural buildings near the beautiful Devon town of Totnes is employing a full selection of renewable and low-energy technologies from the range of Exeter based manufacturer, OMNIE, to create a comfortable living environment for the new occupants. The hundred year old buildings at Ritson Farm are being renovated and turned into highly desirable rural retreats by The Dartmouth Building Company, with the top end developer also leading the conversion work. With their names reflecting their former life, the first property completed is The Old Granary, while The Old Dairy and The Woodworking Barn are currently being fitted out. Each of the luxury homes is to be heated by an LV air source heat pump, which will be connected via multi-branch manifolds to OMNIE’s Staple underfloor heating system across the ground floors with the company’s LowBoard being specified to warm the upper levels. Then to maximise fuel efficiency and help guarantee a healthy indoor living environment, a constant supply of pre-warmed and filtered fresh air will be supplied via one of OMNIE’s Zehnder ComfoAir mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) units.
Liam Hassard – who founded the business along with Shane Hutchings in 2017, commented: “I used to have my own plumbing and heating company and we set up The Dartmouth Building Company to develop high quality, low energy properties. We purchased the barn complex about 18 months ago during the pandemic and set about turning them into stylish homes: trying to retain the character, but refurbishing them to have very good standards of insulation and modern technology. I undertook the MCS course back in 2012 and have been installing OMNIE systems throughout my career and have got to know the local OMNIE area manager, Rob Shute, very well and he helped us design and plan the M&E for the three barns. By getting the insulation up to modern standards and sizing the systems correctly we have had the underfloor heating in The Old Granary running at a 35-degree flow temperature and the living spaces were feeling really warm - before we even had the heat recovery systems operating. Two of them sold off-plan early on in the development with one more left to finish off in phase one, but there are more buildings to be developed.”
OMNIE 1224
As well as installing internal wall insulation, the vaulted roofs to the early 20th century buildings have been fitted with 150mm of Celotex and a layer of TLS Gold Multifoil incorporating a breather membrane, while the double-glazed fenestration is manufactured from Accoya, with the treated timber guaranteeing a long life. The Totnes conversions vividly demonstrate how high efficiency heat pumps, combined with underfloor heating developed to bring the best performance from them, can heat any home and keep fuel consumption to a minimum. Coupled with the ComfoAir MVHR units, the development also illustrates OMNIE’s capabilities to design and deliver its ‘Whole-House” concept, with a nationwide specification and sales service able to assist clients with any type of application, including commercial and even the most challenging of conversions, such as old church buildings.
