Underfloor Heating

Control Systems

Our brand new OMNIE TOUCH smart thermostat delivers precise zone control of underfloor heating circuits. The large full colour LCD capacitive touchscreen display and ultra-thin profile not only mean that the device looks great in any home, but also ensures the programme menu is simple to understand and easy to use. A remote sensor is also available to create a partner zone (such as en-suite) or measure the temperature from a different location to the touchscreen. Our new controls are very easy to setup and have identical electrical connections to industry standard thermostats making them a clear choice for underfloor heating applications. The OMNIE TOUCH is available from mid 2018.

Ceiling and Wall Heating

An OMNIE radiant heating system can be installed in the wall or ceiling.  The same principle that makes underfloor heating work can be applied to walls and ceilings. As long as there is sufficient heating area a room can be satisfactorily warmed with a ceiling or wall heating system giving the same comfortable radiant effect as underfloor heating.

Ceiling Cooling Systems

An OMNIE ceiling cooling system will reduce the ceiling temperature by a few degrees, this reduces the radiant temperature within the room improving comfort conditions.. Omnie is able to provide a range of products and controls for ceiling and floor cooling systems that provide an alternative to air conditioning.

OMNIE ULTIMATE FOR ENERGY SAVING, SPEED AND CONVENIENCE IN UFH

The latest innovation from OMNIE is its Ultimate product, comprising a low build-up underfloor heating solution that enables tiles or vinyl to be laid with complete confidence over a solid slab/screed or a timber substrate.

Manufactured from extruded polystyrene insulation (XPS), Ultimate panels have been designed with multi-directional channels for ease of installing the pipework. The new board also incorporates what OMNIE terms a ‘diffuser channel’ to increase the heat output compared to more conventional panels. This is essentially a wider recess which effectively spans the pipe, dropping 2-3mm into the panel to increase contact with the pipe loops by some 30%, which in turn increases the heat output and reduces the warm up time.

Although not OMNIE’s lowest panel, at just 18mm thick Ultimate is still ideal for refurbishment applications as well as new build, provided the substrate is properly prepared and the correct primers, adhesive and leveling compounds are applied specified. Due to the installation requirements, Ultimate panels have been designed in conjunction with tried and tested products from Tilemaster Adhesives Ltd to add to OMNIE’s tried and tested range to avoiding the potential risks of floating floors moving, or the tiles not bonding properly.

Potentially taking just a single working day to complete, the installation process begins by applying Tilemaster Primeplus to the existing substrate and allowing it to dry for 10-15 minutes, then the undersides of the Ultimate panels are coated with Tilemaster Prime & Grip. The boards will be ready to bond down using Tilemaster Ultimate Adhesive within 15-25 minutes and the pipework can then be fitted into the routed channels, for connection back to the main heating system. ** Please note, drying times may differ slightly due to site/ external conditions

A further coat of the Tilemaster Prime & Grip is rolled onto the topside of the boards before 5mm Tilemaster Levelflex self-leveling compound (9mm for vinyl coverings) is applied using a trowel and spiked roller, ready to receive the final bedding mix and floor finish. The system should be designed, installed and commissioned to BSEN 1264.

The Ultimate panels represent an addition to OMNIE’s ULTRALOW technology category while the ease and speed of installation also mean the new panels meet the company’s LAYFAST as well as TILEOVER criteria.

As a guide to actual heat output performance, based on 12mm PE-RT pipe fitted at 150mm centres with Levelflex screed laid over, an output of up to 124 W/m2 can be achieved at a flow temperature of 550 Centigrade.

Lightweight and easy to cut, Ultimate panels measure 1200 x 600mm, while OMNIE recommends that its products – including primers, screeds and adhesives – are ordered direct from the company to obtain the most appropriate solution and optimum performance.

OMNIE UNDERFLOOR AND GROUND SOURCE PACKAGE WARMS STYLISH WELSH PROPERTY

An individually designed and highly energy efficient private house, nearing completion in South Wales, is making extensive use of the technologies available within the range of South-West based OMNIE: including two types of underfloor heating system, employed to maximise the efficiency and comfort delivered by one of the manufacturer’s ground source heat pumps. The five-bedroom home near Yerberston, Pembrokshire, has been built by Richard Scourfield for himself and his family, targeting very low running costs and minimising environmental impact. In addition to excellent insulation standards from the mainly traditional construction, one of OMNIE’s SWCV 122 H1 ground source heat pumps was chosen to supply both ample domestic hot water for the multiple bathrooms and space heating throughout. Using a flow temperature of just 400 C, the heat delivery is via OMNIE’s TorFloor UFH system across the ground floor rooms which include the lounge, study, kitchen/breakfast, utility and a guest bedroom, while the LowBoard 15 alternative was preferred upstairs for the master and other bedrooms.

Mr. Scourfield himself supervised the laying of the long ground arrays, which were laid in trenches excavated to a depth of 2-3 metres. The pipe runs are filled with a brine mixture to harvest free, renewable heat from the sub-soil and link back to the heat pump located in the downstairs utility room, along with the 300 litre storage vessel.
Craig Guymer recounted: “We cover the whole of Pembrokeshire doing domestic as well as other types of contract, but hadn’t previously encountered the OMNIE equipment until the client, Richard, researched it. Once he’d identified the range as meeting all the project’s requirements, OMNIE produced the design and specification. “

“The site’s carpenters actually installed the underfloor heating panels, having very little difficulty following the layouts and running all the pipes back to where I installed the manifolds – one upstairs and two on the ground floor – and made the connections. We also installed the ground source heat pump and all the control systems, prior to OMNIE carrying out the commissioning and signing the job off in order for the client to claim the RHI. In fact OMNIE was very responsive to any queries we had and I would definitely be happy to work with the manufacturer again.”

SWCV 122 H1 ground source heat pumps are smartly packaged and compact as well as very quiet in operation. Delivering high Coefficients of Performance and MCS approved, they are easily controllable even in cascade arrangement – and work best in combination with the manufacturer’s well proven UFH systems. Ideal for retrofit where head height may be restricted, as well as new build projects, LowBoard comes in 15mm and 22mm thicknesses, the underfloor heating panels being floated or mechanically fixed over a flat timber or solid sub-floor. The panel has a multi-directional design, offering stability and being simply set out across the ground or upper floor construction, also making the installation of the heating pipe rapid and flexible enough to suit complex room shapes.

Not only does LowBoard offer a completely dry system, the inclusion of the foil diffuser further speeds the warm up time without eating up headroom or requiring expensive alteration to doors and skirting boards.
