Jaga LST Radiators (Low Surface Temperature)

Jaga offers the UK’s most comprehensive range of high quality Low Surface Temperature (LST) radiators, each with a safe-to-touch casing, rounded corners and fully concealed valve connections. Some models can be designed with fully concealed pipework, anti bacterial coating and continuous casings as well as the options for pencil-proof grilles and re-enforced casing. LST radiators are perfect for use in all public locations, but especially in schools or healthcare environments such as care homes, where safety and care are of paramount importance.

Jaga Trench & Perimeter Heating

Trench and perimeter heating options allow you to maximise available floor-space and offer unobstructed views without losing valuable heat output. Ideal for countering draughts from the glazed windows commonly found installed at modern office developments, Jaga’s sub-floor trench options start from a depth of just 6cm, with stylish above-floor perimeter options available where required.

Jaga Ventilation Products

A wide range of Jaga heating solutions not only successfully warm an interior, but can also be used in conjunction with Jaga’s demand controlled mechanical ventilation solution, Oxygen. The ability to ventilate means fresh, clean air is constantly pumped into a room, boosting the indoor air quality of any interior – removing excess moisture and pollutants in the air. Jaga Oxygen constantly monitors the air to ensure optimum indoor air quality is maintained without over ventilating which can cause wasted energy.

Jaga Cooling Products

Jaga offers a wide range of 2-in-1 heating and cooling systems, that not only warm an interior, but are quick to adapt to cooling until the desired temperature is reached. Jaga products built with the cooling function are highly responsive to temperature changes, making them the ideal solution for warming in the winter, and cooling in the summer.

Jaga - What are the safety considerations for heating in care & nursing homes?

Safety is paramount in all healthcare applications, including residential care accommodation. When selecting from different types of radiators or other heat emitters, factors such as location, surface temperature and the presence of sharp edges all need consideration. Providing a safe environment is part of making residents comfortable, and it’s important to avoid anything in a heating system design that might represent an injury risk.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to providing heating in care homes, because the needs of residents vary depending on the nature of the care requirements. Some residents are elderly people with no other care options, while more specific care is needed for vulnerable adults with particular conditions, such as stroke patients, or people with mental health issues, Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.
SPECIFYING RADIATORS WITH LOW SURFACE TEMPERATURES

The surface temperature of a traditional steel panel radiator can reach as high as 80 deg.C – enough to cause partial burns with a brief touch, or severe burns with prolonged contact.

Guarding can reduce the surface temperature – and reduce the risk of burns should a resident fall against or hold onto the radiator for too long – but it also reduces the efficiency of the heating.

Low surface temperature (LST) radiators are designed to be compliant with NHS DN4 requirements to prevent injury in the event of accidental contact. The casing can also conceal pipework and valves, enhancing the safety of the radiator and providing peace of mind for all parties.
SPECIFYING RADIATORS WITH NO SHARP EDGES

It’s not just the surface temperature of a radiator that can be a risk. Any hard contact with a radiator can cause bodily injury, especially to frail individuals.

For that reason, LST radiators are designed to include rounded corners and chamfered edges. These features minimise potential injuries should unwanted contact or collision occur, and ensures that LST radiators represent a complete safety offering.

On a practical level, radiators need to be positioned within rooms to meet requirements for access. Allowing people to use spaces safely is part of the wide-ranging regulations that aim to make buildings accessible to all.

Examples of situations where clear, unobstructed access should be provided include clear widths in corridors, or clear areas around beds. It is generally recognised that radiators should not reduce the specified dimensions in any given situation, and if one projects too far into a circulation space, then a common provision is for them to be protected by visually contrasting guarding.
WHICH JAGA PRODUCTS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR SAFETY AND SPACE SAVING?

Trench heating, meanwhile, features the heating element installed in a duct placed in the floor and covered by a decorative grille that is flush with the floor finish. With a large enough duct, trench heaters can act as the only heating source. While they do offer the same level of control as radiators, the nature of their concealment means they can be considered as a space saving option.

Trench heating has been around for many decades. In traditional simple terms, trench heating consists of a duct that is installed in the floor, within the duct is a hot water heat exchanger and on top is a surface grille fitted flush to the floor. Resultant natural warm air convection provides primarily a thermal screen preventing the formation of condensation on glazed facades and stops cold draughts at low level. It also contributes in part, or in whole, to heating the complete space.

Although the term ‘Trench Heating’ is still commonly used, the reality is that the traditional product has been developed to offer an awful lot more than just heating. With the changing climate, comfort cooling and ventilation is equally important. Today’s modern buildings can be complex in respect of M&E design and occupants require thermal comfort and good air quality throughout the year.

Today, Jaga prefers the term ‘Trench Climate Convectors’ as our product range can offer the three HVAC elements in one single unit. Furthermore, solutions can be specified to satisfy demands for whole spaces, be them residential or commercial.

Two and four pipe water heat exchangers can provide heating and high capacity cooling for a wide range of applications. Speed controllable dynamic fans deliver precisely the correct amount of air distribution in every operating mode, this is particularly important for air quality.
