GRAFFITI REMOVAL & PROTECTION

AGS Awarded National Social Housing Pest Control Contract
Leading social housing provider Stonewater has signed a national contract with AGS One Pest Control (AGS) to enhance consistency and service levels for customers.

Leading social housing provider Stonewater has signed a national contract with AGS One Pest Control (AGS) to enhance consistency and service levels for customers.
The new deal, which will see AGS providing advice and treatment, was formed following a detailed procurement process and will replace ad-hoc works and varied service-level agreements with pest control companies.
Stonewater customers will now be visited within 24 of reporting a pest control problem, followed up by expert advice and treatment works to eradicate problems and prevent any recurring issues.
With customer satisfaction in mind, the new contract with AGS, who carry out pest control works for Transport for London and several councils, will include proofing works such as blocking holes as well as low-level remedial works being actioned on the first visit if necessary.
Along with more emphasis on identifying the causes and sources of infestation, working with customers and communities to solve them, this early intervention will prevent further spread of pests and remove the need to call in other contractors, causing potential delays.
A clear policy detailing procedures for how pests will be dealt with, as well as a customer advice leaflet, has been launched alongside the new contract, increasing clarity on processes and responsibilities for customers. The policy will also make clear any pests that cannot be removed or need to be dealt with differently.
Catherine Preece, Stonewater’s Performance and Delivery Manager (Tenancy and Leasehold) said: “Under the growing spotlight the Housing Ombudsman is placing on pest control and housing quality, this procurement process and contract is an important piece of work for Stonewater in streamlining services and continuing to increase customer satisfaction.
“It has been developed in consultation with customers and will provide them with a clearer and more efficient service, with consistency of contractor and speed of works being particularly positive aspects of the new partnership.”
As well as the benefit to customers, the contract, which began on July 1 and has a value of £600,000, will also benefit the economy and local communities, with AGS recruiting new employees to work on the contract.

AGS One - Graffiti Removed from Boundary Wall
The boundary wall of this Southern Water property in Lewes had been prone to graffiti hits and the client wanted a smarter solution to allow quicker removal of future graffiti.
Background
The client not only requested that the graffiti be removed, but asked for a solution which would allow a faster clean up for any future hits. It is commonly known that if graffiti is removed very quickly after application, the culprits are less likely to return to the site to re-apply.
After discussions with the client, it was agreed that following thorough cleaning we would apply a sacrificial coating which would be invisible, not change the natural colour of the brickwork and be permeable, allowing the substrate to breathe.
The Work
Once all vegetation was removed, the wall was jet-washed to remove the graffiti in several locations. Then the remainder of the brickwork was also completely cleaned, resulting in a uniform appearance along its length.
When the brickwork was clean and dry, a sacrificial coating was applied to entire wall. This product is completely biodegradable and reversible with hot water, meaning that future cleaning can take place quickly and efficiently, needing only spot re-application to the affected area.
Due to the busy location, for safety reasons, some of this work was undertaken at night.
The Result
This old wall has been transformed from tired and dirty to bright, clean and graffiti-free. The client and locals are delighted with the finished job, and we’re delighted to have received enquiries for a number of other unrelated sites where similar treatment is required.
