Structural glass entrance
Adding an impressive style statement to St John’s Church at Newbury this bespoke, minimally framed entrance porch meets all aesthetic and functional criteria.
From a design perspective the brief was to integrate the new glass porch perfectly with the distinctive arch of bricks over the existing front door. The new glass porch is fully secure, allowing the original wooden doors to stay open for a more welcoming look and feel for the church. Automatic doors allow easy access for all visitors.

The porch reaches over 3.2 high at the apex of the arch
The glass roof is perfectly formed from two separate curved panels bonded into a bespoke glazing channel.
The semi-circular glass transom is manufactured in a single span for a minimal aesthetic
Maximising heat retention, the porch is created in bespoke double-glazed panels
Ion designed the metal framework to conceal the mechanism for the automatic doors
