Crittall House of the Year Awards 2025: Finalists Revealed

July 2025

The shortlist for the 2025 Crittall House of the Year Awards has been unveiled, with three standout residential projects named as finalists. Now in its sixth year, the awards recognise the best use of Crittall’s iconic steel windows, doors and internal screens in UK homes.

Open exclusively to Crittall’s specialist partner network, entries are judged on installation quality, architectural integration and the creative use of steel to shape contemporary and heritage spaces.

This year’s finalists range from a crisp modern renovation in Sheffield to a meticulous restoration in rural Sussex and a technically ambitious project in South West London. Each demonstrates the power of steel to bring structure, rhythm and light to residential architecture.

Partner: Lightfoot Windows

Modern property exterior featuring black crittall windows and doors with glass balustrade balcony This partly 14th-century listed property on a Sussex high street has undergone a considered transformation to become a forever home.

The building had been altered repeatedly over the years, obscuring original features and interrupting its flow. The owners stripped it back, reconfiguring the space while adding a light-filled extension.

From the outset, they were committed to using Crittall throughout, for its technical quality and its ability to tie together old and new.

The final scheme includes eight units: external W20 windows and doors, fire-rated screens, InnerVision partitions and a dramatic 4.5m-high raked screen at the rear. Brown (RAL 8080) was chosen to soften the look and unify the palette.

“The difference in finishing quality was night and day,” the owners said. “Crittall has helped link everything together. The glazing avoids making the new extension feel like a bolt-on.”

With its clean lines and subtle detail, the steelwork sits comfortably within the historic structure, bringing light, balance and a renewed sense of coherence.

Modern property with white facade, featuring crittall steel windows and doors Set in an elevated position with expansive views, this Sheffield home has been reworked to create a more open, connected and characterful living space.

The homeowners were first introduced to Crittall during a stay at the Soho Hotel in London and were immediately drawn to its distinctive feel.

What started as a plan for a few key windows grew into a full-house scheme. The final result includes external steel windows and doors plus a bespoke internal shower screen, all in Black Grey ( RAL 7021).

“Everyone compliments the Crittall windows and doors; it’s the first thing people mention,” said the homeowner. “They were definitely our best investment during the renovation.”

The steel glazing feels entirely at home within the contemporary architecture, enhancing its form without overpowering it.

This South West London project pairs design ambition with technical control. At its centre are bespoke Crittall pocket doors – a rare feature in residential settings – designed to deliver both architectural weight and flexibility.

When closed, the doors frame each space with strong lines. When open, they vanish into the walls, creating uninterrupted flow. Achieving this demanded detailed coordination between design, glazing and construction teams.

“Each time we pass through those doors, there’s a moment of transition that feels purposeful,” said the homeowner. “It’s a reminder of how good design can shape how we live.”

The use of Crittall here goes beyond aesthetics. It plays a key role in shaping how the house is used and experienced day to day, room to room.
