CPD on Metal Rainscreen Facades for High‑Risk Buildings

March 2025

Fusion Facades is delighted to announce the successful delivery of our latest CPD session, “The Role of Metal Rainscreen Facades in Modern High‑Risk Buildings.” Presented in partnership with Direct Contact Exhibitions, this informative session brought together a diverse audience of architects, fire safety officers, building control officers, specifiers, and other construction professionals, all keen to strengthen their knowledge of façade systems and fire safety best practices.

Objectives
During the CPD, attendees explored the importance of metal cladding for higher risk buildings (HRBs) and were introduced to key fire‑related standards and fire safety ratings. The session featured a comparative review of raw, anodised, and pre‑coated aluminium, as well as stainless steel and brass, and examined the difference between ACM panels and solid aluminium panels. Crucially, the presentation also highlighted the necessity of full wall fire resistance, covering critical components such as cavity barriers, insulation, insect mesh, and backing structures. Additionally, participants were given insights into LandMark Aluminium Rainscreen Facades and engineered interface systems, all supported by a real‑world case study to inform specification and design decisions.

Agenda Highlights
The comprehensive agenda addressed what constitutes a higher risk building (HRB), detailed guidance on fire‑related standards, and a thorough discussion of Class A1 and Class A2‑s1,d0 materials (including polyester powder coatings). The session concluded by examining design liabilities, providing an overview of engineered interface systems, and encouraging interactive participation through a Q&A segment.
