Rendering the exterior of a building is typically used to enhance its appearance and provide protection from weathering and rainwater. Whilst silicone or acrylic ‘through-coloured’ render finishes may seem an economical choice, there can be subsequent problems which can quickly spoil the aesthetics of the building.
Marketed as a long-term render that is structurally sound, there are common issues that can arise which include difficulty when repairing, with repairs to damaged areas resulting in colour and texture differences, which leaves a patchwork effect.
Through coloured renders typically contain petrochemical ingredients, they look fresh when first applied, but over time the components within the render provide an organic food source for contaminants such as algae, which can significantly build up on the render surface. Petrochemical based pigments within through coloured render are prone to fading under UV light.
