Comprehensive Solutions for £19m Enterprise Zone in Bradford
Brett Landscaping provided BDP with technical advice, market-leading kerbs, and bespoke engineered solutions.
The Client:
Brett Landscaping collaborated with civil engineers BDP on infrastructure work for Bradford’s new £19 million Enterprise Zone.
The project aimed to address traffic speed reduction, drainage, and biodiversity challenges.
The Challenge:
With heavy goods traffic expected to increase significantly, BDP needed a solution to reduce the carriageway width, slowing down HGVs on the upcoming busy industrial road. They required a central reservation design incorporating a Vehicle Restraint System.
The Solution:
To meet the design requirements, BDP specified Brett’s Trief GST2A kerbs – the only containment kerb in the UK independently tested for impact protection. Additionally, we manufactured bespoke units in the Brett production plant, reducing manual handling and minimising on-site hazards.
As part of our commitment to sustainability and biodiversity, a ‘wild meadow’ covered central reservation was implemented.
We provided design advice for maintenance access ramps and recommended an innovative drainage solution. By utilising sacks of geotextile filled with free-draining aggregate, water was able to collect behind the kerbs and filter through factory controlled, pre-drilled core holes, preventing soil erosion.
The Result:
The solution enabled excess water on the central reservation to flow through the kerbs and drain away via the downstream gully, reducing hydrostatic pressure build-up.
The project was successfully completed in June 2022 at the Parry Lane Enterprise Zone in Bradford.
