Component Developments was approached to design HSBC 8 Canada Square

May 2018

HSBC 8 Canada Square
8 Canada Square is a skyscraper in the Canary Wharf and acts as the global headquarters of HSBC. The 42 above ground floors are home to 8,000 HSBC employees, with the largest kind of staff kitchen in Europe available serving around 2,500 meals daily.
Component Developments was approached to design, manufacture and supply a drainage solution for the staff kitchen. The solution needed to meet all hydraulic and hygiene requirements whilst meeting the short window the contractors had to shut the staff kitchen, and reopen.
Component Developments designed a drainage solution to suit the tiled floor finish using their 3010 drainage channel profile. The drainage channel was a “made to fit” solution and so was made 280mm wide, with a 245mm wide anti-slip grating. The system included a built in fall to a type 5200 gully complete with removable waste basket, odour trap, rodding port and 110mm spigot.
The removable waste basket and odour trap are imperative in places such as kitchen or food production factories where hygiene is of high importance.
The final solution was a 9,000mm long drainage channel which was supplied to site in two lengths before the joint being welded on site.
