POWER ACCESS SYSTEMS IN RESIDENCE IN HACKNEY
As part of the extensive refurbishment and redevelopment of the Haggerston and Kingsland residential estates in Hackney currently being undertaken by Taylor Wimpey the contract to install the suspended cradle system for the flagship building, Block A, was awarded to Power Access Systems.
The cradle access system comprises a fully power operated Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) running at roof level on a free-laid galvanised steel twin track system that runs around the perimeter of the main roof. Due to the unusual layout of the building two special features had to be incorporated into the track system.
In addition to cleaning and light façade maintenance tasks the cradle has also been used, together with purpose designed auxiliary equipment, to carry out glazing and cladding installation works. This feature enabled the contractor/developer to make considerable cost savings by reducing the amount of time and coverage of standing scaffold to the facades during construction. This auxiliary equipment is now an asset to the building to be used for future glazing replacement which will inevitably be required thus providing cost savings for future tenants.
This BMU provides safe and efficient access to the glazing to enable the building to be maintained to the high standards expected for a building of this quality. This is one of many bespoke access systems that Power Access Systems has installed since 1983.
