Timloc proudly support Building Britain’s Future at an extraordinary Westminster event.
4th May 2016
Derbyshire based Hodgkinson Bricklaying Contractors were invited to Westminster yesterday to help highlight the skills shortages and the perception of bricklaying as a trade choice to the Housing Minister and Minister of State for Skills.

The Building Britain’s Future event also showcased bricklaying skills by apprentices building a wall in front of Big Ben, on Speakers Green within the Parliamentary estate. This was the first time an event of this type has taken place in Parliament and Timloc’s Marketing Director Claire Langley was delighted to be there at Westminster and be part of the event.
The wall building event was followed by a recption in Westminster Hall, which included speeches by Amanda Solloway MP, an elated Ian Hodgkinson of Hodgkinson Bricklaying Contractors and Nick Boles MP and Minister of State for Skills.
Ian said "It’s the perception of a bricklayer’s career that needs changing, construction has great prospects, safe working conditions, great earning potential, I have made a big bold promise to youngsters who join my academy that they could be earning £1,000 a week within five years if they work at it. We just need to show youngsters that there is an alternative to university and building is excellent career to have with so many possibilities."
"Ian added: "I am absolutely delighted to have been invited to Westminster and would like to thank Amanda Solloway MP for having the vision to help get my message out that bricklaying is the career of choice and with the my New National Construction Academy and opportunities such as this, we are absolutely confident that we can show young people how rewarding a career in bricklaying can be.”
Recent figures released from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) highlighted that the current skills shortage within bricklaying and quantity surveying was at its shortest supply level since 1998.
Timloc launches new dry fix roofline and above solutions
Timloc launches new dry fix roofline and above solutions
29th April 2016
Timloc, one of the UK’s leading building products manufacturers, has extended its roofline and above product range with four new universal dry fix roof systems for new build and refurbishment projects.
Timloc’s latest launches, available from May 3rd, include a new Dry Fix Verge system for profiled roof tiles and a Dry Fix Continuous Verge solution for slate and flat tiles, as well as convenient 6m Dry Fix Ventilated Ridge and Hip installation packs.
Not only has Timloc designed and manufactured dry fix systems that perform to the highest standards, but they’ve also identified and incorporated some great features to deliver fast, straightforward and reliable installations. These include extended fixing locators, allowance of guttering and a simple, fast eaves closer starter process. This is all without comprising on Timloc’s commitment to deliver value for money products and solutions.
Timloc’s Commercial Director Dave Bean said:
“To meet the expectations of installers, contractors and our merchant and distributor partners, we’ve extended the highly trusted Timloc brand into the dry fix roofing market.
“We previewed our new dry fix systems at the recent RCI Show in Coventry and we were delighted with the positive reaction we received from installers, merchants, specifiers and even competitors in terms of the new product’s aesthetics, quality and features.”
Timloc’s dry fix systems involve the mechanical fixing of roof verge, ridge and hip tiles without the traditional use of wet mortar bedding alone, which is often unreliable as it deteriorates over time and can be adversely affected by rain and wind. The British Standard for Slating and Tiling, BS 5534 stipulates that the use of mortar bedding alone is no longer sufficient as the only method of fixing roof tiles.
Dry fix roofing systems also present many other benefits over mortar bedding alone including, faster, safer and cleaner installations that are generally unaffected by building settlement. They present consistently smart and virtually maintenance free finishes and can be fitted in wet and cold weather conditions.
All the new Timloc dry fix products offer universal design appeal and project flexibility as they are compatible with the majority of today’s roof, ridge and hip tiles and slates and are suitable for most roof pitch types from 15-55 degrees.
