Our extensive range of structural and building envelope products (but not limited to the range below) includes:

Celsius®: A high strength hot finished hollow section that is suitable for all construction and mechanical applications, for internal and external applications to BS5950-1:2000, EN1993 and BS5400. Celsius performs in even the most arduous conditions and is the product to choose for all critical applications where failure is simply not an option.

ComFlor®: Manufactured in the UK and readily available, Tata Steel’s ComFlor® offers the most extensive, cost-effective and efficient range of composite floor deck profiles in Europe. Our range of seven unique profiles enable effective and efficient design, each intended specifically for a particular application area providing optimum composite floor deck performance. 

RoofDek: Tata Steel offers the most comprehensive range of structural roof decking (from 32mm to 210mm deep), all under one UK manufacturer’s roof; all the steel profiles in specific gauges are FM approved. We also supply additional profiles to complement our UK manufactured range from Tata Steel in Europe.

Slimdek®: ComFlor® 210 and ComFlor® 225 are both designed to be used with Tata Steel’s Slimdek® system, or other integrated beam system with asymmetric beams that allow the floor deck to land on the bottom flant flange. With typical spans to 9 metres the deep decks provide clear open space between beams. The deck is contained within the beam depth which provides a very shallow floor zone. The shape of the deck profiles allow for service integration and the whole system provides inherent fire resistance.

Building Envelope Products:

Formawall®: A smooth-faced flat, secret-fix, insulated panel that provides a high-end architectural appearance. The panel can be laid vertically as well as horizontally.

Trimapanel®: The Trimpanel® family is a range of insulated, secret-fix, architectural wall panels in a choice of micro-rib or smooth-face finish to provide attractive flat external aesthetics. Quick and easy to install with fast build times, the panels are available in a range of sizes and colours.

Trisomet®: A robust insulated panel used for roof or wall cladding systems. As a one fix construction component that is fabricated offsite, it is quick and consistent to install, and the wide spaced trapezoidal steel external skin provides optimum performance for water drainage, strength and walkability.

Trisobuild®: An attractive, tailored roof and wall system. Trisobuild® offers exceptional design flexibility. With self-curved options and a choice of more than 20 external profile shapes, eg, sinusoidal and plank. Trisobuild® can also be tailored to meet your requirements for fire resistance and acoustic performance. Trisobuild systems comprise a pre-finished steel trapezoidal liner profile, a spacer system, an insulation layer and a Colorcoat® pre-finished steel external weathering profile. Offering excellent sustainability credentials, the systems are also lightweight and easy to handle and install – allowing fast and efficient build programmes.

Colorcoat®: The Colorcoat® brand provides the recognised mark of quality and metal envelope expertise exclusively from Tata Steel. Tata Steel has developed a range of technically leading Colorcoat® pre-finished steel products which have been comprehensively tested and manufactured to the highest quality standards.

Debut for weathering grade hollow sections in spectacular observation tower

Since April, the Danish Sealand region has a new highlight in several ways. At 135 meters above sea level, the new observation tower in the high ropes park of Camp Adventure is now the highest point in the region. At the same time, the hourglass-shaped construction made of weathered hollow sections and local oak wood, designed by Effekt Architects and engineering firm Arup, represents an impressive construction in harmony with the surrounding natural environment. The opening was also a highlight for Tata Steel: the corrosion-resistant hollow sections Celsius® weathering grade were used for the first time in a steel structure.

The hollow sections form the supporting structure for the 45-meter-high tower in the forest of Gisselfeld Kloster near Haslev. The bottom and the top are particularly wide and the central part much slimmer. For this shape called hyperboloid, the vertical tubes in the tower were rotated by 120 degrees, thus providing the constricting effect reminiscent of an hourglass. This shape not only increases stability, but also makes the spiraling ascent over the 600-meter-long walkway inside the lattice tower an experience that plays with the changing distance between the walkway and the surrounding area. Due to the gentle ascent the path is accessible for everyone and also suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Once at the top you can enjoy a 25 km wide view over the landscape.

Particularly durable and low-maintenance construction
The weathered hollow sections make the construction particularly durable and maintenance-free and, with their reddish-brown colour, fit well into the forest. Compared to conventional structural steels, the low-alloy steel – equivalent to the well-known Corten steel - forms a dense patina on the steel surface due to chemical additives of copper and chrome. This significantly slows down corrosion and thus extends the service life enormously. The natural-looking material is used in particular for infrastructure projects, buildings in nature and frequently in outdoor art installations. It is not necessary to apply or maintain a coating or zinc layer, which has a positive effect on costs. Eliminating the need for re-coating for an extended life, this is a great advantage, especially for areas that are difficult to access.

"This is the first time that the excellent corrosion resistance of weathering steel has been combined with the technical advantages of our true hot-finished premium hollow sections, such as dimensional accuracy, low internal stresses, lower weight and good weldability. Celsius® weathering grade provides an excellent basis for the construction of long-lasting, high-performance and low-maintenance structures that are extremely sustainable due to the elimination of further coatings and later maintenance - especially when looking at the entire life cycle," says Graeme Peacock, marketing manager at Tata Steel.

Celsius® weathering grade is Tata Steel's response to the increasing demand for weathering steel for durable and resource-saving structures where ongoing maintenance would be difficult to implement. Until now, however, the availability of weathered hollow sections has been very limited, and they could therefore only be used rarely. With the introduction of the new Celsius® weathering grade, this gap can now be closed. With a large selection of 298 different dimensions of square, rectangular and circular steel hollow sections in the range, planners and architects can now even better implement durable, low-maintenance construction models.

In addition to the sustainability aspect of weather resistance, Celsius® weathering grade, like all other hollow sections from Tata Steel, is certified to BES 6001 for "Responsible Sourcing". Tata Steel is also considered one of the pioneers in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and its Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) program supports architects and planners in meeting the requirements of increasingly stringent certification systems for buildings.

ATA STEEL LEADS THE WAY FOR THE STEEL INDUSTRY BY BECOMING AN EPD PROGRAMME OPERATOR

Tata Steel is delighted to announce that it has become the world’s first steel company to be approved to operate an Environmental Product Declaration Programme, helping to deliver clear reporting of its steel-based products and reinforcing the sustainability of steel through the life-cycle.

In today’s industry, the focus on the environmental impact of a building and its materials is higher than ever. As such, the readily available life-cycle inventory data contained with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) is increasingly being used to assess the sustainable attributes of building products and increase points in sustainability building certification schemes, such as BREEAM and LEED. In fact, Tata Steel’s ComFlor® EPD has already been requested as a requirement for supplying into the latest Dubai Metro project.

As a result of becoming an EPD Programme Operator, Tata Steel is now able to provide the market with third-party verified, product-specific EPDs for both its own construction products and the construction systems they become part of, in an effort to demonstrate the sustainability credentials of steel-based products. Indeed, steel is highly sustainable with qualities well-suited to circular economic use; it is durable, flexible and adaptable and, at the end of life, is capable of being reused and infinitely recycled without loss of quality.


What’s more, as well as co-ordinating with its entire supply chain, Tata Steel is also working closely with its supply chain partners, including key building envelope manufacturers, to use its programme for the production of their own EPDs. This ensures that the same accurate and informed life-cycle data is passed down the supply chain, increasing the provision of product-specific steel EPDs and improving transparency in construction.

Our EPD programme operatorship, and our increasing number of EPDs, helps to ensure that such information is readily available at the specification stage, so that informed choices can be made.

Tata Steel’s EPD Programme operatorship complies with all relevant ISO standards and its third-party (type III) EPDs comply with EN15804 and ISO 14025 standards. Tata Steel have the highest class of EPD available for its structural hollow sections, cladding systems and structural decking (both roof and floor).

What’s more, Tata Steel also realised that, for some product groups, customers may have specific scope and specification requirements, which could make differences to the life-cycle impact of the product. It therefore took the innovative step to create a range of EPD tools for these product groups, which allow scope and specification requirements to be detailed in order to generate bespoke EPDs for customers. This approach to transparency and reporting demonstrates Tata Steel’s significant ambition in improving the sustainability of the built environment.
