Our extensive range of structural and building envelope products (but not limited to the range below) includes:

Celsius®: A high strength hot finished hollow section that is suitable for all construction and mechanical applications, for internal and external applications to BS5950-1:2000, EN1993 and BS5400. Celsius performs in even the most arduous conditions and is the product to choose for all critical applications where failure is simply not an option.

ComFlor®: Manufactured in the UK and readily available, Tata Steel’s ComFlor® offers the most extensive, cost-effective and efficient range of composite floor deck profiles in Europe. Our range of seven unique profiles enable effective and efficient design, each intended specifically for a particular application area providing optimum composite floor deck performance. 

RoofDek: Tata Steel offers the most comprehensive range of structural roof decking (from 32mm to 210mm deep), all under one UK manufacturer’s roof; all the steel profiles in specific gauges are FM approved. We also supply additional profiles to complement our UK manufactured range from Tata Steel in Europe.

Slimdek®: ComFlor® 210 and ComFlor® 225 are both designed to be used with Tata Steel’s Slimdek® system, or other integrated beam system with asymmetric beams that allow the floor deck to land on the bottom flant flange. With typical spans to 9 metres the deep decks provide clear open space between beams. The deck is contained within the beam depth which provides a very shallow floor zone. The shape of the deck profiles allow for service integration and the whole system provides inherent fire resistance.

Building Envelope Products:

Formawall®: A smooth-faced flat, secret-fix, insulated panel that provides a high-end architectural appearance. The panel can be laid vertically as well as horizontally.

Trimapanel®: The Trimpanel® family is a range of insulated, secret-fix, architectural wall panels in a choice of micro-rib or smooth-face finish to provide attractive flat external aesthetics. Quick and easy to install with fast build times, the panels are available in a range of sizes and colours.

Trisomet®: A robust insulated panel used for roof or wall cladding systems. As a one fix construction component that is fabricated offsite, it is quick and consistent to install, and the wide spaced trapezoidal steel external skin provides optimum performance for water drainage, strength and walkability.

Trisobuild®: An attractive, tailored roof and wall system. Trisobuild® offers exceptional design flexibility. With self-curved options and a choice of more than 20 external profile shapes, eg, sinusoidal and plank. Trisobuild® can also be tailored to meet your requirements for fire resistance and acoustic performance. Trisobuild systems comprise a pre-finished steel trapezoidal liner profile, a spacer system, an insulation layer and a Colorcoat® pre-finished steel external weathering profile. Offering excellent sustainability credentials, the systems are also lightweight and easy to handle and install – allowing fast and efficient build programmes.

Colorcoat®: The Colorcoat® brand provides the recognised mark of quality and metal envelope expertise exclusively from Tata Steel. Tata Steel has developed a range of technically leading Colorcoat® pre-finished steel products which have been comprehensively tested and manufactured to the highest quality standards.

Tata Steel announces vision to combat growing housing crisis

In a white paper published today, Tata Steel announced its revolutionary vision of the UK housing market, paving the way for a new breed of homes to populate our ‘Neighbourhoods of the Future’.

The publication, produced in partnership with the Agile Ageing Alliance, recommends a fundamental shift in the way housing development is considered in the UK. Rather than a series of rungs the consumer must climb, from starter home upwards, and then back down again in later life, buildings would be capable of adaptation – of morphing to support a growing family, and then adjusting to accommodate an ageing one. This vision of a home for life can only be achieved by looking at the needs of the occupant and how they change over time.

The report comes as the UK finds itself in a housing crisis. According to the findings of a recent year-long cross-party housing commission launched following the Grenfell Tower disaster, England needs 3.1 million new social homes by 2040, more than were built in the two decades after the end of the Second World War.[1]

Henrik Adam, Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Steel Europe, said: “In construction, housing is seen as a very challenging area. We believe there is an urgent need for a new approach to home owning throughout our lives. The basis of this starts in designing a home where a person can live, work and play throughout their lives.

“Well-designed spaces coupled with tailored systems are the starting point of a cradle-to-grave approach to housing design. As the needs of the occupant change over time, the space can adapt with minimal disruption, thus reducing the need for a person to move and in turn strengthening the building of and continuity of the ‘neighbourhood’.

“At Tata Steel, we regard this not only as a business opportunity, but believe it is our duty to work on sustainable solutions and play a beneficial role within the society we operate in. The provision of decent, affordable homes is an expression of that belief.”

And he added: “We expect this white paper to serve as a valuable resource for all housing providers together with government – national, regional and local. Working collaboratively through the Agile Ageing Alliance our ambition, as a cross-sector collective, will be to build a prototype Neighbourhood of the Future, the first of many, to prove the concept.”

Neighbourhoods of the Future sets out to qualify what better actually looks like. Authored by preeminent cross-sector experts and thought leaders, the report envisages the development of “smart” intergenerational age-friendly neighbourhoods. These neighbourhoods would comprise ‘cognitive homes’ which are affordable, sustainable, easier and more efficient to construct and be connected directly with the high-tech systems tailored to meet the diverse needs of an ageing population.

With the acceleration of new digital technologies designed to make lives easier and more connected, the report proposes a rethink about how the UK’s housing stock is financed, built and updated.

One of the report’s contributors, Matt Cooper, a specialist in Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) at Arup Group, said: “The creative pioneers of the new generation of MMC not only have the opportunity to alleviate our housing shortage, but to change the way housing is delivered. A house is just a house, but homes are part of communities. Throughout our lives, the way we use our home changes. With adaptable and agile regeneration capabilities built in by design, MMC could be the game changer. Within the next 10-20 years, it may not only halt the downward spiral in our housing market, but act as the catalyst for a new social economy.”

With clever modular designs, a house can be installed in days and can be replaced, adapted or reconfigured equally efficiently. Tata Steel is developing housing systems which could provide quality, adaptable modular designs, allowing householders to upgrade and customise homes.

Lord Best, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Housing and Care for Older People, said: “With a large, ready-made market that the unimaginative house building industry is failing to address, there are massive opportunities for creating homes for everyone. Government, local and central, stands to gain from incentivising and supporting a major growth in this fledgling sector, not least in collaboration with housing associations. But the tipping point – when “rightsizing” becomes the norm for those in their 60s and 70s – will arrive when a new generation of entrepreneurs take up the challenge. A market that is worth over £6 billion a year beckons. And with it comes the great prize that both older and younger generations can live in homes that make their lives better.”

Top marks for Tata Steel’s sustainable building products

Achieving responsible sourcing certification is a challenge for most companies, but for a multi-national, integrated steel manufacturer like Tata Steel with one of the most complex supply chains and one of the widest and diverse ranges of products, the task is all that much greater.

The internationally recognised British Standards Institute (BSI) has just completed Tata Steel’s latest BES 6001 responsible sourcing audit review, and have confirmed accreditation in responsible sourcing for all the steel products made in the Netherlands for all market sectors. Tata Steel now has the widest portfolio of responsibly sourced products and associated supply chains.

The BES 6001 certification is valid for three years and as part of the certification process BSI audited Tata Steel’s main steel making site at IJmuiden, Netherlands and as well as manufacturing facilities in Oosterhout, Zwijndrecht, Maastricht, SAB Profiel IJsselstein and SAB Profiel Nieuwegein. The comprehensive audit process included review and assessment of site operations, organisational management, supply chain management, environmental and social criteria.

BES 6001 is an internationally recognised standard for responsible sourcing. Bauke Hoekstra Bonnema, Senior Manager, Tata Steel Marketing Construction said: “It demonstrates we want to be a responsible and sustainable manufacturer and require this throughout our supply chain, from how we source our raw materials such as iron ore, how we make our products more sustainably right up to how we transport our finished products.”

Successful achievement of BES 6001 responsible sourcing certification for all UK and Dutch construction products including insulated panels, decking, and structural hollow sections, provides customers with continued assurance that Tata Steel’s sustainable developments are supported by independent verification, and the knowledge materials used in the manufacturing of construction products have been responsibly sourced.

This internationally recognised certification provides our clients and stakeholders with confidence that Tata Steel are acting responsibly in our procurement and operations. In an age when organisations need to ensure that their supply chains are operating responsibly and that their brands are protected, this certification provides piece of mind for both our customers and stakeholders.

BSI, the company which carried out the audit, awarded Tata Steel with certification at the “Very Good” level, just a few marks short of “Excellent”, the standard’s highest level. “It is a real achievement for a multi-national, integrated steel manufacturer like Tata Steel with a highly complex supply chain and a diverse range of products,” said Peter Quinn, Head of Environmental Policy and Strategy for Tata Steel in Europe. “It is also a great example of what we can achieve together.”

“Many customers want their buildings to stand out by being accredited to sustainable building schemes such as BREEAM. Our certification helps them to demonstrate they have a responsible supply chain.
