Global Smoke and Environmental Ventilation Specialists
SE Controls is a leading international specialist in the design and delivery of intelligent smoke and environmental ventilation systems using façade automation as an integral part of the building envelope.
We provide solutions for life safety and environmental comfort within buildings, whilst ensuring compliance with legislation and improving operating efficiencies, be that for commercial space or residential accommodation.
With over 35 years experience within the façade automation industry, SE Controls offer a complete turnkey solution from design and manufacture to installation, commissioning and on-going maintenance, throughout the lifetime of a building.
Our products are Made in Britain accredited but designed and tested to international standards, ensuring our solutions are at the forefront of technology and regulation, globally.
Smoke Ventilation SE Controls offers a comprehensive range of natural and powered Smoke Heat and Exhaust Ventilation systems (SHEV) suitable for any size and type of building. Our systems are designed to facilitate the safe escape of occupants in the event of a fire and to enable the fire to be fought in its early stages.
Environmental Ventilation Environmental or Natural ventilation improves indoor environments, reduces CO2 emissions and is cost efficient. Adaptive environmental ventilation systems are less costly than traditional HVAC systems, being cheaper to install, run and maintain. Adaptive natural ventilation is leading the way for a sustainable future.
Façade Automation Automatically opening windows uses hardware, known as actuators or rotary handles, that fit directly onto the window system which push and pull the window open and closed, instead of operating the window manually.
Remote Services Using 4G communications technology and intelligent algorithms we can analyse the data collected from our systems placed within buildings to continually improve operating efficiencies and report back on the findings of our research to help you better understand your buildings.

SE Controls gets set for BAU 2019
The BAU 2019 exhibition in Munich is a key event for SE Controls and the company is previewing several new actuator and control innovations alongside products from our comprehensive range of smoke control, environmental ventilation and façade engineering solutions.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s leading architectural and construction trade fairs, BAU runs from 14th to 19th January 2019 and is staged in 19 halls with around 2,000 exhibitors from 45 countries expecting to attract more than 250,000 visitors.
Located in Hall B2.534, SE Controls’ 60 sq.mtr stand includes products and animated displays covering actuators, monitoring and control solutions, as well as providing information on international compliance and regulations alongside a dedicated ‘Research and Development’ feature focusing on product innovation.
The ‘R&D’ zone not only showcases the company’s ‘first principles’ product development approach, but also features prototypes of three of its latest product innovations, which are currently going through rigorous performance and quality testing prior to launch.
Will Perkins, Group Managing Director with SE Controls, explained: “Everything about the product innovations being shown at BAU is new. We took the view that to develop the next generation of world-class products for the global market, we needed to innovate from first principles. Building on 35 years of experience we have been researching, learning and innovating by looking at key components, such as the chain material, motor and casing requirements.”
Animated displays, live demonstration videos and working products, together with a wide range of technical information and support, also feature as part of SE Controls’ exhibition stand design, which enables visitors to experience the products in action and discuss applications with the company’s business development team at the exhibition.
Also, to ensure that visitors can obtain information relevant to their own country and location, SE Controls’ stand hosts have been drawn from the company’s international offices in South Africa, UAE, China, and mainland Europe, together with the UK.
Will Perkins continued: “Since we last exhibited at BAU in 2017, we have continued to grow and innovate to ensure that our global footprint is not only increasing in size but is also making a firm impression in every country where we have a presence. This year’s show is an excellent opportunity to showcase our talents for innovation and manufacturing, as well as our ability to deliver outstanding world-class products and solutions to the smoke control, environmental ventilation and façade engineering sectors.”
Setting the Standard – SE Controls becomes the first SCA IFC SDI 19 certified company
SE Controls has become the first company to be approved under the new SDI 19 certification scheme, which has been developed by the Smoke Control Association (SCA) in partnership with IFC Certification and has been introduced to help raise standards across the industry.
Developed to ensure a suitable level of competency is maintained in all aspects of smoke control systems, the scheme also covers a contractor’s ability to provide appropriate levels of service and maintenance following installation and commissioning, in line with a building’s type, size and use.
Such is the importance of the recently introduced initiative that it is now mandatory for any SCA member involved in the installation of smoke control systems to achieve the accreditation as a condition of membership.
To become certified under the scheme, businesses must demonstrate their experience in fire strategy verification together with the design, installation and commissioning of smoke control systems in accordance with the relevant standards and industry guidance documents, including Approved Document B and BS7346 Parts 4, 5, 7 and 8. SE Controls is the first company to complete the IFC SDI 19 certification process including detailed internal office and external site audits.
SCA Chairman, David Mowatt, explained: “The independent review of building regulations and fire safety supports clear cultural changes in the procurement, design, construction and maintenance of buildings and building systems in order to deliver safer buildings. Contractors should be responsible for the systems they install and end users should always look to use a capable, experienced contractor.”
IFC Director of Certification, Ian Woodhouse, said: “Since the launch of this scheme in June of 2018 we have already received a number of applications and companies are currently progressing through the certification process. This is not only encouraging, but also underlines the importance that the industry assigns to raising competency standards and improving the quality of companies involved in installation activities. We’re proud to be a key part of this initiative in partnership with the SCA.”
Will Perkins, Group Managing Director of SE Controls, is delighted with the company’s new status and commented: “As a long-standing member of the SCA, we have always maintained high quality standards in all aspects of our business, as well as supporting the SCA’s efforts to raise the standards across the industry. This new scheme raises the bar for the smoke control industry and ensures that competence, credibility, quality and skill levels are not only improved, but recognised through the auditing and certification process.”
He added: “For over 35 years we have been at the forefront of our industry. Our expertise combined with our range of ‘Tested Solutions’ enables us to provide compliant products and solutions to the highest level, whilst also underlining our commitment and responsibility for the reliability of our life safety systems. Helping to improve industry standards has been a long-term commitment for us so it seems fitting that SE Controls has become the first company to achieve IFC SDI 19 and we hope many more will follow.”
