REHAU Building Technology
District heating (heat networks) is the concept of one large centralised boiler instead of individual boilers. Heat is then transported via pre-insulated district heating pipes into each building. REHAU offer 2 pre-insulated pipes:
RAUVITHERM is the only PE-Xa district heating pipe manufactured in the UK which saves an estimated 29% on CO2 emissions. Ideal for district heating, biomass, biogas and heat pump applications. Available in UNO 25-125mm and DUO 25-63mm.
RAUTHERMEX offers huge advantages over traditional steel pipework due to the speed and ease of installation. The high performance PU foam makes it ideal for large district heating over long distances where heat losses are critical. Available in UNO 25-160mm and DUO 20-75mm.

REHAU offer a number of solutions for sub-surface heating and cooling, from domestic systems such as REHAU Easy Heat to industrial and commercial solutions. Our offering for the commercial market includes our Chilled Ceiling solution, REHAU Coolboard as well as our TABS (Thermally Activated Building Structures) solution for buildings. We have also launched the new NEA Smart controls for underfloor heating as part of a complete package from REHAU.
REHAU offers RAUTITAN, comprising Flex and Stabil polymer pipes, a new universal 10 bar pipework solution designed specifically for drinking water and heating systems. The flexible PE-Xa RAUTITAN pipework system delivers on durability, corrosion resistance and ease of installation, and is available in both coils and straights, and also as a pre-insulated pipe system, offering installers a solution for virtually every application. The Flex range, a five layer polymer pipe, is available from 16-63mm and the multilayer Stabil pipe range is available from 16-40mm.
REHAU has recently launched a new acoustic drainage pipe to the portfolio – RAUPIANO. RAUPIANO Plus pipes feature a unique multi-layer composition which reduces noise without the need for additional pipe lagging (17dB sound level). The pipe’s inner layer is made of polypropylene (PP) and is designed to be abrasion resistant and low friction to reduce blockages and extend life span; the middle layer is made of mineral-reinforced PP for sound absorption and stability; and the outer PP layer is impact resistant, shockproof and UV/weather resistant.
Offering a vast range of cable management solutions worldwide, REHAU has designed and developed innovative and robust cable containment products dedicated to the UK & Irish markets. The range includes Cat 6, 6A & 7 data cable management systems, such as PROFILA data, COMPACT data and our latest addition - PROFILA Bench Trunking. We also offer a range of large industrial and commercial trunking systems, MAX, Slimline and Mini Trunking.

REHAU gear up to host ‘The Hot Debate’
REHAU gear up to host ‘The Hot Debate’
This June, polymer pipes specialist REHAU is gearing up to host a free to attend event on the trending topic of 4th Generation District Heating. The event, “4th Generation - The Hot Debate” will bring together six expert speakers from across the industry to discuss and debate the benefits and advantages of 4th Generation heat networks in the UK.
The line-up of expert speakers at the event will be giving their perspectives on all things district heating in a series of talks and debates throughout the day. The speaker line-up will first give their perspectives in a short presentation following which will be two sessions of interactive debates.
REHAU’s own Alexandra Ivanchuk will be leading a talk on the ‘Effects of 4th Generation on the CAPEX of a heat network’, closely followed by a debate with other speakers on the various subjects of 4th Generation District Heating.
Steve Richmond, Head of Marketing and Technical for REHAU’s Building Solution division, said: “The importance of district heating has grown in prevalence in recent years especially following recent government pledges. Suffice to say that the UK district heating industry is at a key junction in its journey – with HNIP funding announcements due in 2019 as well.
“As an industry we therefore need to ensure designers, installers and developers alike are designing and building efficient networks. REHAU has acknowledged the importance of district heating and has, for several years now driven forward best practice in heat network design. We are incredibly excited to host this event and create a platform for the best in the industry to discuss and debate on how we need to operate as we step into the future.”
REHAU has a catalogue of products which support the use of district heating. Its popular RAUTHERMEX and RAUVITHERM PE-Xa ranges are known for their flexibility and thermal performance whilst the recently introduced large diameter PP-R range allows for designers to specify a fully polymer network up to 355mm.
REHAU’s 4th Generation District Heating event will be taking place on 19th June at The Building Centre in Store Street, London. The event is free to attend but spaces are limited so get registered early to avoid disappointment.

REHAU RAUTITAN CHOSEN FOR MODERN RIVERSIDE DEVELOPMENT IN YORK
RAUTITAN CHOSEN FOR MODERN RIVERSIDE DEVELOPMENT IN YORK
REHAU’s RAUTITAN pipework has been specified for Hungate – a new high quality, town centre housing development being built in the historic city of York.
Currently under construction on a brownfield site just two minutes from the town’s shops and amenities, Hungate is York’s newest residential quarter. Once complete, the complex will provide more than 1,000 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, all designed to the highest specifications.
Hungate is being developed by Lendlease, a leading international property and infrastructure group with operations in Australia, Asia, Europe and the Americas.
Building services consultants TÜV SÜD were enlisted in the third phase of the Hungate scheme to ensure the newest apartment blocks would be operationally efficient.
Since taking over on the project, TÜV SÜD has updated the specification for the scheme’s plumbing pipework, having worked closely with its nominated contractors Genlec Ltd, on a new polymer pipework package featuring REHAU’s RAUTITAN product.
Colin Hindmarch, Associate at TÜV SÜD, said: “Our chosen contractor Genlec came to us with a contract proposal featuring RAUTITAN and we were very interested to know more about it. We had used REHAU products on other projects in the past, such as their underfloor heating pipework, and had a good experience, so were happy to see if the RAUTITAN could deliver equally good results for Hungate.”
Paul Thompson, Area Sales Manager from REHAU, visited Colin and the TÜV SÜD team at their offices and gave them a full product demonstration. Colin was impressed with what he saw, particularly the quality and ease of installation that RAUTITAN offered.
Colin added: “The ease of installation was a real selling point for us. The contractors could fit it very quickly, bending the flexible pipe around obstructions rather than having to dogleg as you would with rigid copper pipework. With so many apartments to fit the drinking water and heating pipework in, we recognised the huge potential for time savings across a large construction project.”
Compared to copper pipework, RAUTITAN offers considerable time savings during installation. There is no ‘hot work’, no cutting and soldering pipes to navigate around obstructions and the joints take less than 30 seconds to complete. As the pipework can be used for both drinking water and hot water, contractors only need to buy one type of pipe, which comes on a handy reel for easy roll out when needed.
Another selling point for TÜV SÜD was the EVERLOC compression sleeve joint system. Lengths of RAUTITAN are joined together using the compression sleeve joint system, which is very simple and quick to do using a RAUTOOL device. This system produces a guaranteed permanently sealed joint without the need for O-rings, which can degrade over time and cause leaks.
Colin said: “It was vital that we installed pipework that could stand the test of time for this project. The RAUTITAN comes in longer lengths, so there’s no need for joints above the ceiling, and with the compression sleeve jointing system, we know the failure rate for the joints is zero. You can’t make the pipework more robust than tha
RAUTITAN is currently being installed on the third phase of the Hungate development, due for completion in 2019, and is already being put forward for the larger fourth phase of the scheme.
Drew Clough, Product Manager at REHAU, commented on the project: “When it comes to urban living and multi-occupancy buildings, quality and ease of installation are key to the successful installation of pipework. Contractors want something that can be fitted quickly to get the high volume of work completed as efficiently as possible, and building services consultants want products that are of a quality that guarantees they won’t have any leaks, which can be particularly costly as running water can quickly affect other dwellings in a building. RAUTITAN ticks both of these boxes and more.”
