REHAU delivers “Unlimited Polymer Solutions” and is the premium worldwide brand for polymer-based innovations and systems in Building Technology. Founded in 1948 in the Bavarian town of Rehau. In 1962 REHAU opened in the UK and now has 4 Sales offices, 2 factories, warehouse and specification office in London.
REHAU Building Technology
District heating (heat networks) is the concept of one large centralised boiler instead of individual boilers. Heat is then transported via pre-insulated district heating pipes into each building. REHAU offer 2 pre-insulated pipes:
RAUVITHERM is the only PE-Xa district heating pipe manufactured in the UK which saves an estimated 29% on CO2 emissions. Ideal for district heating, biomass, biogas and heat pump applications. Available in UNO 25-125mm and DUO 25-63mm.
RAUTHERMEX offers huge advantages over traditional steel pipework due to the speed and ease of installation. The high performance PU foam makes it ideal for large district heating over long distances where heat losses are critical. Available in UNO 25-160mm and DUO 20-75mm.

New REHAU HR Director wants everyone to be ‘part of the family’
New REHAU HR Director wants everyone to be ‘part of the family’
REHAU has welcomed an important new team member to its UK head office in Ross-on-Wye with the arrival of Sergio Fonseca as HR Director for the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia.
Although new to REHAU UK, Sergio has been with the global business for 16 years and was previously based in his home country of Brazil, where he was responsible for the HR function in the REHAU South American businesses.
His arrival highlights the truly global nature of REHAU and as a Doctor of Business Administration, the skills that Sergio has developed make him the ideal person to deliver HR programmes and principles that will benefit everyone at REHAU. He places great importance on developing individuals to bring out their abilities and make them feel a truly valued part of the team.
Sergio has significant experience in working with the manufacturing plants in South America. His expertise in this area will be very valuable as he will be responsible for the HR functions in the UK plants in North Wales and related businesses.
Sergio will be an important contributor to the programmes for Health and Wellbeing and Corporate Social Responsibility and as a member of the CSR Steering Group, Sergio will play a key role in helping REHAU achieve its goals in charity and community activities.
He said: “I aim to keep the spirit of REHAU alive in our colleagues in the business and ensure everyone knows they are essential to our team and ongoing success. My approach is also to have an open dialogue policy and we actively encourage feedback at all levels.”
“My main priority is to ensure that all our colleagues are engaged, prepared and well-skilled for their roles so that they can continue their personal development within the company. We have a very important focus on developing the talents within the business and my own appointment highlights the possibilities to move around the REHAU group, whether that be in the same location or in a different country entirely.”

HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR LOW CARBON HEAT NETWORK FUNDS
HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR LOW CARBON HEAT NETWORK FUNDS
REHAU has welcomed the recent launch of the Government’s £320 million Heat Networks Investment Project (HNIP), which will support the development of new heat networks from 2019.
As one of the UK market leaders in district heating pipes, REHAU believes that the announcement will inspire confidence in the UK district heating industry and encourage more developers and specifiers to choose these low carbon systems in the future.
Steve Richmond, Head of Marketing & Technical for Building Solutions at REHAU, said: “Heat networks are an important part of the Government’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions and in recent years, we have seen a marked increase in their use, particularly in schemes which provide low cost heat to those most in need.
“With funding soon to be available for new heat networks, the industry has a real opportunity to not only deliver more district heating systems across the country but also to invest in the development and installation of modern heat networks for increased efficiency and even lower costs for end users.”
The terms 4th and 5th generation district heating are used to refer to low temperature and ultra-low temperature heat networks. These operate using low grade heat sources – either from renewables such as heat pumps or waste heat – and utilise lower flow temperatures and larger delta Ts (the difference between flow and return temperatures) and hence require smaller pipe diameters. 5th generation district heating uses ambient temperature levels for heating and cooling (15-20°C).
4th and 5th generation networks are typically designed and installed using polymer pipes, reducing the capital costs for both developers and contractors and the lower heat losses will reduce costs for end users.
Steve added: “The HNIP scheme will open for applications in January 2019, so we would advise clients looking to install a heat network to factor this into their project timelines. The funding will be available for both public and private sector projects in England and Wales, and for schemes which incorporate both domestic and non-domestic use. With funding available and the continued support of supply chain partners like REHAU, 2019 is sure to be a key year for heat networks in the UK.”
The Clean Growth Strategy shows that heat networks could meet up to 17% of heat demand in homes and up to 24% of heat demand in industrial and public sector buildings by 2050.
REHAU’s heat networks portfolio includes the RAUTHERMEX and RAUVITHERM PE-Xa pipes and large diameter PP-R district heating pipes, alongside the RAUTITAN heating & plumbing system often used in communal heating systems.
