CRAFTY WAYNE SCORES A BULLSEYE AGAINST BRISTOW!

September 2012

A local builder has just hit the bullseye by bagging the top prize in a national darts competition. Wayne Fisher of WF Projects in York won the honour of playing a match of 501 against the darts legend Eric 'The Crafty Cockney' Bristow in a competition organised by Howarth Timber & Building. The event took place as part of the World Darts Supremacy last Friday night at the 02 Academy in Leeds in front of an audience of around 1,500 darts fans.

Wayne scored a spirited 369 before Eric Bristow cleaned up with a double four, but that was enough for him to win his total in cash, along with a £100 voucher to spend at Howarth Timber’s branch on Leeman Road, a bag of tools to the value of £200 and an Apple iPad to help him with his successful joinery and construction business.

“I was amazed to win in the first place, but even more surprised when I topped 300, which is what I needed to win the Ipad,” said Wayne. “The last time I played darts was against my friends at school, and that was some time ago! That said, Eric did help me along, not least because I needed a big score to ensure Howarth’s charity also benefited.”

Part of the competition was that Howarth Timber would double whatever Wayne scored and give the equivalent cash to the charity When You Wish Upon a Star, which helps dreams come true for children with life threatening and life-limiting conditions.

“Howarth’s customers have helped us generously support this charity for the past three years,” said managing director Nick Howarth, who presented Wayne with his cheque and prizes. “We were going to ask Eric to use his left hand in the match but in the end that really wasn’t needed!”

The World Darts Supremacy also featured the sport’s top professionals playing against each other, including 15 times world champion Phil 'The Power' Taylor and 2011 Premier League Champion Gary 'The Flying Scotsman' Anderson. Phil Taylor ran out champion by beating Gary Anderson 10 - 4.
