Community centre transformed to provide social housing

September 2024

The first floor of Kingswood Community Centre on Clay Hill Road, Basildon, has been converted into flats by Basildon Borough Council to provide much-needed social housing. The new dwellings included a total of three 2-bedroom flats.

The original building was constructed around 1960 and over time the exterior had become dilapidated and was in need of renovation. As part of the conversion to residential use, the building was retrofitted with 100mm thick X-Clad to insulate the walls, which will greatly improve energy efficiency and comfort conditions for the new tenants.

X-Clad is an external wall insulation (EWI) system suitable for modular, new build and retrofit projects. It includes high-quality insulation in a range of thicknesses from 17-100mm to help reduce heat loss, cut heating bills and carbon emissions. In addition to this it can also transform the appearance of older properties and improve living conditions by eliminating interior damp and condensation.
