Leading Fire Specialist Switches to FIREFLY™ Systems

A Coventry based company which specialises in passive fire protection for projects across the country has enhanced its offer to the industry by adopting the range of lightweight, flexible and fully certified fire barriers manufactured by TBA FIREFLY™ with all of its personnel also undergoing product training within the firm’s academy and benefitting from full technical support on a project-by-project basis.

Established 12 years ago and working with some of the UK’s largest contractors as well as national property companies, Krasi Fire Protection Ltd. is certified by IFC and CHAS for the installation of fire barriers. It now installs the full selection of FIREFLY™ barriers across commercial, retail, residential and other property types.

The Contract Manager for Krasi Fire Protection Limited, Daniel Oldacre, commented: “We took the decision at the start of the year to switch away from the rock mineral wool solutions we had been using and to adopt the FIREFLY™ systems instead. This was based on a number of regulatory as well as practical considerations including all of the FIREFLY™ products being fully tested and the fact the manufacturer offers far more comprehensive technical guidance. We now have had all 10 of our operatives trained up at FIREFLY's training centre and work is going very well.”

On one of its most recent contracts, being carried out on eight blocks of three-storey flats managed by Novus Property Solutions, Krasi Fire Protection Ltd. is installing ZEUS Lite™ 90:30 in combination with Collaroll and the FR120 Hatches recently introduced to the range.

Daniel Oldacre explained: “The client – national maintenance specialist, Novus Property Solutions, was seeking one hour’s fire protection for the roofspaces within the maisonettes it manages in Bromsgrove, so we put forward the ZEUS Lite™ 90:30 and it was duly approved. Like the other products in the range, the ZEUS Lite™ is easier to transport and store while it is also lighter to handle and install, also being cleaner and not generating dust like the rock mineral wool”.

“It is also very handy now that they’ve got their FR120 Access Panels available, especially as these are tested as part of the overall system, in combination with the fire barrier. Having a fully tested system is the most important thing for our certification and we are installing a total of 34 of the 600 x 600mm FR120 Panels on this job.”

FIREFLY’s ZEUS Lite™ is ideally suited to this type of application, comprising a non-rigid woven fabric fire barrier that has been specifically developed for the vertical separation and compartmentation of extensive concealed spaces within buildings.

By offering 90 minutes integrity and 30 minutes insulation, FIREFLY's ZEUS Lite™ 90:30 exceeds the minimum requirements regarding fire barriers under the Building Regulations’ Approved Document B (Fire Safety). The specially treated glass fibre fabric is strong and resilient as well as flexible while, crucially, the system’s certification covers the inclusion of service penetrations which many products do not.

Manufactured from woven and non-woven glass, the FIREFLY™ range is designed to optimise resistance to flame and smoke as well as offer heat protection in a wide range of scenarios. The barriers are easy to install horizontally or vertically using a full selection of ancillary products.
