Copper 3D Jockey Weathervane
Good Directions Ltd are proud to present this 3D Copper Weathervane manufactured for one of their customers. Working closely to a photograph the customer presented to the company, work began on constructing this beautiful weathervane. Good Directions is an engineering company who takes enormous amount of pride in their skill level and technical prowess their engineers possess.
From standard stock designs to bespoke ideas, Good Directions is always happy to produce a Weathervane that you will be proud to display. This 3D Weathervane was cut from flat sheets of copper on their Waterjet cutter in 2 halves. A mould was then produced from Modelling Foam, allowing the engineers to shape the copper pieces using a hammer, sandbag, and precision to turn a flat sheet into a 3-dimensional horse and jockey. This creates an effect like no other and allows detail to be applied to the Weathervane, creating an extra layer of realism. Once each section had been moulded and dressed to the desired effect, the halves were welded together to create one complete horse and rider.
To create strength inside the horse, a copper pipe framework was inserted and attached inside. This allows the horse to be perfectly weighted and allowed the jockey to sit comfortably on the horse. Once the main design was complete, work began on the finishing touches; starting off with the reigns of the horse, thin Copper strips were soldered to the horses body and jockey’s hand to allow him to hold the reigns. The last design choice chosen by the customer was for the Weathervane to have gilding applied to specific locations on the Weathervane.
The Gold Leaf which has been applied to this Weathervane adds a new level of aesthetics and creates a visually pleasing design, which will last for years to come.
