Milbank Concrete Products invest in solar power, saving 200,000kW energy per year

February 2022

As part of our ever-evolving sustainability strategy, we're immensely proud to announce that we recently installed solar panels to the roof of our prestressed concrete factory that will assist us in achieving a saving of approximately 200,000kW per year, equating to ~50% of our total energy usage.

The countries increasing carbon footprint is having profound effects on the environment. Rising temperatures and shifting precipitation patterns are changing the growing patterns of plants, resulting in indigenous vegetation moving to increasingly cooler climates.

Sea levels are rising as the temperature of our planet increases due to warmer water occupying more space than cooler water. Rising seas will erode shorelines and destroy ecosystems and coastal cities and towns could be displaced by rising seas.

As well as helping to combat climate change, renewable energies like solar also help to reduce air pollution, which is another one of the biggest challenges we’re facing globally.

Energy Gain UK, suppliers of the system said, “Following on from their extensive efforts to decarbonise the business, through biomass and energy control systems, the client sought our help to reduce electricity consumption as effectively as possible. The approach we took ensured that we understood their targets, projected growth of the business and any local grid restraints to design a system that would work favourably for them. The resulting system will play an important part in reaching their sustainability goals.“

We understand that our work towards a more sustainable future will never be complete, which is why we are committed to continual research and development that ensures we are always progressing and heading in the right direction.
