AATi - Barking Riverside Station
Customer: TFL
Barking Riverside is the largest housing development in East London, complete with 10,000 new homes, as well as healthcare, shopping, community and leisure facilities. Without a new rail link in place, the full potential of the development at Barking Riverside could not be achieved.
Branded as The Barking Riverside extension, it will add 4.5km to the London Overground Gospel Oak to Barking line and take it from Barking to a new station at Barking Riverside.
The extension will bring:
• Reconfiguration of Network Rail's Ripple Lane goods yard so the extension can connect to the Tilbury Loop
• Construction of a viaduct over the Ripple Lane yard. The viaduct will have to be built over the Tilbury Loop and foundations constructed between the HS1 tunnels
• Continuation of the viaduct for another 1.5km over Renwick Road and into the heart of Barking Riverside
• Construction of a new terminus station within the Barking Riverside town square. The station will have step-free access from street to train.
AATi supplied full depth anti-slip stair nosings for the main concourse staircase, type ref: SN93/SL3/280. The escape stairs featured a smaller yet equally robust AATi stair nosing profile type ref: SN9/55. Both products were cast in Nickel Bronze material offering physical characteristics that are strong, durable and corrosion resisting.
AATi - Chelsea Barracks - Phase 4
AATi manufactured all cast balustrades, Juliet balustrades, and feature handrails for the Chelsea Barracks phase 4 development. Situated in Belgravia, a highly coveted central London location, the Chelsea Barracks Development is bordered by Sloane Street and King’s Road. The site was purchased by Qatari Diar in 2007 for £959 million. The development will consists of 448 residential units in total well as well as a new leisure centre, NHS medical centre, community centre and local amenities. The project achieved the prize of most sustainable development in Europe in 2021 as well as being only 1 of 16 developments globally to achieve LEED platinum certification for green building. AATi worked with the metalworks subcontractors, the Main contractor Multiplex, as well as world renowned architect Eric Parry Architects.
18 individual casting designs in total were developed in conjunction with our in-house design team. Geometry was received by the architect before it was adapted for castability. AATi offers a broad range of previous experience working on high-end architectural developments and can assist with previous knowledge on methods for assembly, fixing and finishing. The project involved some geometry which does present some difficulties when casting. Making use of previous experience and verifying methodology through the use of casting simulation AATi managed to successfully deliver to schedule and to the highest standard controlled by FMDC Ltd. The castings were produced in cast aluminium to BS EN 1706 grade EN AC 44100. The parts were coated in PPC paint.
The main design of balustrade featured long sweeping spindles with a hidden fixing system on the rear of the panel. The nature of the design created a casting challenge due to contraction and thin, delicate design aspirations.
The project was delivered on schedule with a total of 360 panels manufactured as well as a unique handrail feature for use on a side of the building incorporating shaped glass balconies.
See below for a link to the Chelsea Barracks website where we will be featured in the near future as part of their ‘Craft series’ including a short film of how AATi delivered from design to installation.
