Since 2022, KEIM products have been Cradle to Cradle Certified® Silver and hold the Material Health Certificate™ in Gold. Now, KEIM paints from the two product groups ‘Mineral products for mineral substrates’ and ‘Mineral products for non-mineral substrates’ have been successfully recertified: All products again achieved silver certification, and in the categories of Material Health, Social Fairness and Water Stewardship, they again achieved the gold standard. Particularly notable is the improvement in the ‘Renewable Energy’ category: here, KEIMFARBEN went from silver to gold and now achieves the gold standard in four out of five categories (previously three out of five).
‘We were able to increase the number of certified KEIMFARBEN products from 65 to a total of 80. That's over 85% of our paint sales,’ explains Peter Treitz, Head of Product Management. This not only underlines KEIMFARBEN's commitment to sustainability, but also strengthens its leading position as a pioneer in the construction industry. A wide range of Cradle to Cradle-certified paint systems is available to planners, processors and building owners. These make it possible to design new buildings and renovations with coatings that are verifiably recyclable, harmless to health and durable. ‘Our products meet the requirements of the ‘Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings’,’ emphasises Peter Treitz. Developed by the German Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction, the “Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings” promotes a unified understanding of sustainability while also creating a legally sound basis for the allocation of funding.
The C2C Certified Material Health Certificate™ Level Gold confirms compliance with the strictly defined assessment criteria based on all ingredients and components of the product. The independent Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute in San Francisco only awards Gold certification to products that do not contain any substances from the list of banned chemicals and that pose no danger to health or the environment. For over 145 years, KEIM has been committed to sustainability and consistently avoids problematic ingredients such as solvents, plasticisers, film protection agents and preservatives.
