Bespoke Rundum Meir door chosen for period property renovation
May 2021

A custom-made side sliding sectional garage door by Rundum Meir has provided the perfect blend of aesthetics and modern functionality in a project to renovate a stunning Victorian home in Colchester.

The large three bedroom dwelling, located on a corner plot in Colchester’s desirable New Town area, is an excellent example of a quintessentially British home. It features a host of fine architectural features typical of the Victorian era, which have been thoughtfully restored whilst other aspects have been improved in a client-led project bound by strict planning conditions in respect of design, colours and materials.

The large 19 ft x 12 ft detached garage to the rear of the house offered the homeowner an opportunity to transform a traditional utilitarian building into a high quality working space. Matching the specification of the main house, this garage has been equipped and finished to a high standard, including the laying of a resin floor, which allows for its use as a domestic utility area or office as much as a garage for vehicles.

The garage opens out onto the adjacent footpath and road with a clear span of 2900 mm courtesy of a side sliding sectional garage door by Rundum Meir. Hand crafted in Germany using knot-free Spruce, this bespoke timber garage door is fully automated and has the additional benefit of featuring insulation between the five solid double skinned timber panels to keep the internal temperature stable.

With one third obscure glazing, the door allows for plenty of natural light to enter the garage and aesthetic goals are completed through its finish in RAL 6021 Pale Green to meet the client’s exact specification. The elevation design of the garage door panels and the cross styles in the window were the customer’s wish to satisfy the local conservation area requirements. It is the perfect example of the role a Rundum Meir garage door can play in transforming a garage to give it new purpose and flexibility.

All Rundum Meir garage doors, which are also available in ‘round the corner’ side sliding, overhead sectional and up-and-over styles, are designed by its UK team, manufactured to the highest standards in Germany using the finest quality materials, and then assembled here in Britain prior to installation.

The doors are all completely bespoke so they can be crafted in whichever material suits the design or aesthetic goals. In addition to many different types of sustainably sourced timber, Rundum Meir garage doors can also be made using high strength extruded aluminium – available in any RAL or other colours – along with bespoke cladding such as glass required to match a building facade.
