The Econoplate from Stokvis Energy Systems

The specialist contractor undertaking a major conversion project within a former office property in Leicester has continued a strong working relationship with Stokvis Energy Systems for the supply of its boilers, plate heat exchangers and other equipment in creating high quality apartments.

Trail Systems Ltd, headed by Patryk Halczak, is reconfiguring the six-storey Highcross House, located close to Leicester city centre, converting the former insurance building into 140 two- and three-bedroom homes. While the structure has been strengthened to take an additional two floors that are still awaiting planning consent, a phased programme has seen the existing floors divided up using modern partitioning systems. With the basement plant room refurbished, the trio of R602 boilers and two C3A Econoplate plate heat exchangers have been ramped up as phases of flats have been handed over for occupation.

Patryk Halczak commented, “My task was to deliver reliable solutions for the conversion project, and I know that each contract we have carried out with Stokvis has been absolutely successful – there have been zero issues over a period of many years.

“In the case of Highcross House, the boilers and other systems were commissioned more than six months ago, and have coped without any problem, despite being disturbed each time another floor or zone has been ready for connection. The building is now some 80% occupied with residents moving in on the fourth floor before the end of the year. Meanwhile, the boilers, plate heat exchangers and other systems have all been sized ready to serve the two additional floors when permission is given for their construction. These are high specification apartments and they are proving very popular with tenants.”

The R600 EVOLUTION series offers specifiers excellent economy and performance with compact dimensions, making them the ideal ‘go anywhere’ solution for retrofit projects. At Highcross House, they wheeled into position on a plinth, before being connected up to an Econopress unit to provide sufficient pressure to circulate primary water throughout the building.

The pair of C3Ai330+OR Econoplates were chosen for their compatibility with the R600 series boilers, helping them stay in condensing mode for longer as 700 flow and 500 centigrade return temperatures are targeted. A Stokvis Econoboost unit was also installed to circulate hot and cold water to kitchens and bathrooms throughout the building.

Amongst the other conversion projects around the country where Stokvis Energy Systems has provided Trail Systems with fully compatible heating and hot water services was Unity House in Luton, as well as a development called Wesley House.
