Masonry Support Systems
Masonry cladding on steel or concrete framed structures is normally supported by stainless steel masonry support systems. Frame type, differential movement, type of cladding, masonry load and cavity width all need to be considered when selecting the most appropriate fixing solution.
Windposts & Parapet Posts
Ancon Windposts are designed to span vertically between floors to provide lateral support for panels of brickwork. They are designed to suit specific applications and are supplied complete with end connections and ties.
Ancon AMR is steel reinforcement that locates in a bed joint to strengthen masonry panels. The longitudinal wires are flattened to less than 3mm to ensure good mortar cover is maintained, even when the product is lapped or used in the same joint as a wall tie. AMR improves the structural performance of a wall by providing additional resistance to lateral load.
Stainless Steel Lintels
Ancon Lintels are manufactured from stainless steel and do not require any further corrosion protection.The standard range of Ancon Lintels is designed to suit the majority of loading conditions found in residential and commercial buildings. Special lintels can be manufactured to suit architectural features, heavy duty applications and wall constructions not covered by the standard range.
Stainless Steel Wall Ties & Restraint Fixings
Stainless Steel Wall ties and restraint fixings are an essential element in the stability of masonry panels. Ancon manufactures fixings in a variety of lengths and types for restraining brickwork, blockwork and stonework. The Staifix range of wall ties includes solutions for all types of masonry construction including traditional brick-to-block, thin-joint blockwork and timber frames.
Tie bars are increasingly being used in structures and buildings as an architectural as well as a structural element. Ancon Tension Systems have been designed to meet the demanding aesthetic requirements of today’s applications. A high load tension system is available - the Ancon 500 System.
Ancon Isolan connectors join external concrete balconies to internal concrete floor slabs. Used to minimise cold bridging, these connectors provide continuity to the thermal insulation in the wall. Standard systems, comprising rigid CFC-free polystyrene insulation and stainless steel shear reinforcement, suit most depths of cantilever and simply supported balconies.

Ancon Teplo reaches new heights
Following recent fire tests at BRE Global, Ancon is pleased to confirm that its innovative basalt-fibre, low thermal conductivity wall ties, Teplo-BF and Teplo-L, offer 120 minute fire resistance, making them suitable for buildings of any height (subject to structural performance), in line with Building Regulations, Approved Document B.
Officially accepting the BRE’s findings, the BBA has confirmed that the fire resistance of these ties will be updated from 60 to 120 minutes in the next issue of Ancon’s Agrément Certificate (14/5160, PS2 and PS3).
This extended fire testing brings to an end the previous 18 metre building height restriction on these Teplo ties. Teplo-BF and Teplo-L ties are now fully comparable with the fire resistance of stainless steel wall ties which, being non-combustible, are also suitable for buildings of any height. However, being 24 times more thermally efficient than stainless steel, Teplo ties are the ideal choice for insulated cavity walls in low energy buildings.
Ancon Marketing Manager, Annabelle Wilson, said “Teplo has been one of the most important developments in low-energy construction in recent years – enabling higher standards of thermal performance to be achieved from typical UK cavity wall profiles. With their suitability for buildings requiring a 120 minute fire resistance now confirmed, Teplo-BF and Teplo-L’s advanced design and technology can now be applied in taller buildings, further expanding the design opportunities for architects and engineers.”
Teplo-BF and Teplo-L wall ties comprise a pultruded basalt fibre body set in a resin matrix, which provides high strength and an exceptionally low thermal conductivity of just 0.7W/mK. This not only minimises heat loss across an insulated cavity but also wall footprint; unlike steel ties, the thermal bridge created by a Teplo tie is always disregarded in U-value calculations to BS EN ISO 6946.
Teplo-BF and Teplo-L ties have been developed for use in a range of building applications. Teplo-L features an ‘L’-shaped stainless steel upstand, mechanically and chemically bonded to one end, to allow secure surface fixing to in-situ steel, timber, concrete or masonry; while the Teplo-BF, which is built into mortar at both ends, features specially moulded safety ends that improve buildability and bond strength over the original bar-shaped TeploTie, making it easier and safer to use and suitable for standard or slow-drying mortars.
Winner of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2012 and 2015, Ancon is recognised worldwide for its outstanding achievements in the construction sector. This improved fire rating on this innovative product range is another significant step forward for the Industry.

After a string of Awards successes, Ancon’s innovative Teplo range of low thermal conductivity wall ties has done it again, with the news that the new Teplo-BF has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Innovation in Insulation” category of the 2016 Build It Awards.
The latest addition to the Teplo range, Teplo-BF, features the same ultra-low conductivity basalt fibre body as the original bar-shaped TeploTie, with specially moulded safety ends which make the new tie easier and safer to use and significantly enhanced mortar bond.
As well as providing a thermal conductivity of just 0.7W/mK, meaning it is disregarded as a thermal bridge in ‘U’-value calculations, Teplo-BF offers an 80% increase in bond strength over the original TeploTie, making it particularly suitable for use with lime and other slow-drying mortars.
Judged by a panel of industry experts, the Build It Awards celebrate the latest developments in the self-build market; a construction sector which often pushes the boundaries of energy efficient design. Teplo-BF is one of 5 recent innovations that the judges will be considering for this year’s prestigious award.
Teplo-BF’s selection follows similar recognition for its sister product, Teplo-L, in the 2014 Build It Awards; the shortlisting of Ancon’s Cavity Wall Tie Product Selector App in 2013, and top honours for the original TeploTie – voted “Best Innovation in Insulation” in the 2012 Awards. The ground-breaking range has also received recognition in other award programmes – including the 2010 Self-Build Product Innovation Awards and, more recently, the World Architecture News Product Innovation Awards.
