BLÜCHER on track with Birmingham New Street Railway Station

Around the same time that BLÜCHER was founded in Denmark, the growing city of Birmingham was beginning to benefit from the west coast main line railway programme, which included the demolition of the old New Street station to make way for a new station that would be completed by 1967.

By 2003 this same train station would be voted in a poll as the 2nd biggest "eye sore" in the UK, due to its subsurface and outdated 1960's architecture. Ten years later, the plans began to transform the station into a sustainable 21st century redevelopment that the people of Birmingham could be proud of!

Sustainability is at the heart of BLÜCHER who fully recognises its responsibility towards the environment. It is no surprise that stainless steel is such a popular material for the 21st centaury, when it has so many environmental benefits in its production, use and recyclability. BLÜCHER was an obvious choice for Birmingham's Gateway New Street project, which opens in 2015, the year in which BLÜCHER celebrate its 50 years anniversary. Stainless steel was chosen for the facade as well as throughout the building where BLÜCHER supplied our environmentally friendly BLÜCHER® EuroPipe drainage pipework system.

Stainless steel is non-toxic, corrosion resistant, hygienic and the most fire resistant material on the market and stainless steel can be recycled indefinitely without any loss of its properties. BLÜCHER® EuroPipe is only a third of the weight of a cast iron drainage system and can typically offer 40% labour savings and superior whole life costs compared to alternative drainage materials. In addition to enhanced health and safety in the work place benefits, another bonus is the cargo weight ratio, which create sustainable vehicle movements and reduce the carbon footprint. This saves our customers time and money and it saves the environment for the next 50 years!
