Chorley War Memorial Portland Limestone

February 2013

Portland Stone Firms quarried, manufactured and transported Portland limestone for Chorleys new civic War Memorial.

The Chorley Remembers scheme was completed on Friday, 9th November, in time for Remembrance Sunday.

16 Portland Broadcroft Basebed panels were inscribed with the names of 734 Chorley service personnel who gave or lost their lives in the First World War, Second World War and conflicts since.

The 1200 x 1200 x 075mm thick Portland stone memorial panels are sited on a chamfered plinth that runs the length of the memorial wall.

The project was completed with similarly chamfered copings that form the capping of the wall and provide the weathering detail specified.

An artist's earlier impression depicted flower beds with the scheme and changes in the ground levels, these had been considered for the scheme.
