Network Rail ‘Access for all’ at Canterbury West station by AATi

October 2017

AATi are pleased to have now supplied stair nosings to WEC Group on three occasions within the ‘Access for All’ scheme, most recently on Canterbury West Network Rail station. AATi supplied full step-width aluminium stair nosings (SN293/WL/307UR) for a total of 58 steps to the specifications of WEC, steelwork manufacturers and installation contractors based in Darwen, Lancashire.

AATi worked closely with WEC to manufacture a bespoke version of our standard profile SN293/WL/280B to incorporate an underside radius to suit the bend in their steelwork along the back edge of the nosing and increased the nosing depth from 280mm o/all to 307mm, easily achievable with our in-house pattern workshop.

Two other new high spec AFA bridges have previously been built by WEC at Audley End and Forest Hill Stations using our SN293/WL/280B stair nosing and are all complete with two lifts for disabled access.

AATi stair nosings used and specified by Railtrack on the AFA bridges meet the DDA requirements with contrasting colour resin inserts built into the leading edge of the nosings they also help partially sighted people. Carbide granules cast into the nosings greatly reduces wear and also increases slip resistance. This also ensures a far longer life than lesser competitors’ products.
