Construction Specialties UK - Screening Louvres at Nuffield Hospital Provide Essential Airflow

The Nuffield Hospital has recently relocated its Mayfair Theatres to an extended and refurbished building on the existing hospital site. As part of this refurbishment and extension work, 2 large external plant areas were required to house new cooling equipment. Both plant areas needed to be secured and screened from the surrounding environment, whilst still allowing essential airflow to the equipment. GBS Architects and Scion Technical Services sought the advice of C/S on the best way to do this.

Having discussed the scheme with all the parties involved, including the suppliers of the plant and equipment, C/S proposed the SLP screening louvre; a cost effective, plastic louvre system with hidden mullions that would match the performance and aesthetic requirements.

To allow for the greater airflow requirements in critical areas, whilst maintaining a consistent aesthetic to the elevation, it was decided to increase the standard spacing of the louvre blades. This not only gave the client the performance needed but also reduced the costs as less blades were required in each elevation.
