Bruce and Hyslop are experts in the manufacture and restoration of architectural metalwork. For over a 100 years, we have been supplying our specialised engineering services to specifiers, contractors and public authorities. Bruce and Hyslop are leaders in their field for those ’in the know’. Our secret being, we hold many of the moulds for casting ornate structures and metalwork. When Bruce and Hyslop are specified our work is not merely a reproduction, it is as near to an original as possible.
Bruce and Hyslop have been entrusted with the restoration and repair of metalwork in some of the most prestigious restoration projects in the UK. A recent example being the restoration and repair of the cast iron windows of Oriel Chambers in Liverpool. The the world’s first metal framed glass curtain walled building. Designed by architect Peter Ellis and built in 1864.

Through our unsurpassed expertise in metalwork, we have expert knowledge and experience in the fabrication and installation of architectural metalwork in most ferrous materials including stainless steel, mild steel, brass, bronze, cast aluminium and iron. As Bruce & Hyslop hold a large quantity of the moulds for period architectural metalwork, we are able to cast and supply an extensive range of street furniture, more or less on demand. Our range of street furniture products include:
Litter Bins.
Available in a range of materials including real cast iron, cast aluminium and steel. Our range of litter bins are available in many shapes so you can be assured we will have a design that will suit any sympathetic regeneration of period landscape or streetscape. We can easily include Insignia and logos from your designs.
Street Lighting.
Available in cast iron or cast aluminium. Bruce & Hyslop have a wide range of ornate street light columns.
Cast Iron Bollards.
Bruce and Hyslop can supply a vast range of original cast iron bollards. For a truly authentic reinstatement of period details in a street furniture project, specifiers should access our ranges. Many of which are not available else where. As in all of our street furniture ranges, we have the ability to cast bespoke signage and insignia. For added endurance we can also supply our bollards in ductile iron or cast aluminium and for the most prestigious of projects cast bronze.
Railings & Balustrades.
We have all seen poor quality wrought iron ornate railings and many times they ruin the aesthetics of a period property refurbishment. Our moulds are pure in design and pure in their authenticity. Matching exactly the shape, function and designs of original period railings. Our range includes extensive ranges of finials, spindles and posts to provide perfect reinstatement of period details with the same commitment to quality and prestige of the original railings or balustrades. Bruce and Hyslop’s Brucast railings are available in cast iron & ductile iron. We also manufacture mild steel /cast iron finial hybrids where a more economic cost is required.
Street & Park Benches.
A real cast iron bench will surpass virtually any other form of street bench. When correctly specified a street bench from Bruce and Hyslop will withstand the most arduous of environments. Beautiful to behold and extremely robust. Our extensive range of street and park benches will provide not only authenticity, but resistance to all but the most dedicated vandal. The destruction of a Bruce and Hyslop bench is not only a crime, it is very difficult to do as well.
Architectural Structures.
Canopies & Shelters.
Victorian and Edwardian canopies and shelters were once common on the streets of the UK. Some of these beautiful architectural structures were originally manufactured by Bruce and Hyslop and they are still available today. Bruce and Hyslop can manufacture, design and install a wide range of glazed canopies, cantilever canopies and ornate shelters. An excellent example of our recent work can be found on Lord Street, the most prestigious street of Southport and along on the Wirral in Wallesey.
Bandstands.
We are possibly most proud of our work in the supply of beautiful ornate cast iron bandstands. We are credited with the reinstatement of some of the UK’s bandstands and we have a proud history in their refurbishment.
Cast Iron Balconies.
Original balconies with their ornate cast iron balustrades furnish many of the UK’s prestigious period properties. Over time these exposed structures have naturally slowly decayed. We are experts in their refurbishment and where necessary replacement. We ensure the same dedication and attention to detail as the original structure.
