ACO Gullies re-launched with enhanced performance
February 2012

ACO Building Drainage has refined and re-launched its hugely successful Stainless Steel Gully range, offering enhanced efficiency and performance across five systems that offer many combinations to meet a wide variety of applications. ACO Gullies are designed to be used in commercial applications where hygiene, durability and performance are crucial.

All Gully systems are manufactured in austenitic stainless steel grades 304 and 316 and fully pickle passivated for corrosion resistance. The bowl-shaped design of the gullies minimises siltation and all models include an integral foul air trap.

New gully ranges 157 and 218 are a further development of the highly successful ACO EG200/EG250 and ACO EG300 products. The new gully ranges offers many benefits to the specifiers and the contractors such as hygienic design following BS EN 1672 and BS EN ISO 14159 requirements, stainless steel construction for durability and long life, fully compliant to BS EN 1253, wide range of gratings, easy installation for all types floor constructions, high flow rate and many more.

Solution meets tight schedule for Wyke Farm
February 2012

Located in the heart of the West Country, Wyke Farms has been producing fine prize winning cheddar cheese for 150 years. In order to keep pace with the growing national demand for their premium cheese products the need for a new warehouse became a matter of urgency to expand capacity. The real challenge for the builders was to ensure that delays on the project were avoided, so when it came down to selecting a reliable, robust and readily available drainage system they chose the off-the-shelf Modular 125 system from leading specialists ACO Building Drainage.

Somerset-based Wyke Farms is the UK's largest independent cheese producer and milk processor, with the family-run business now supplying many of the major supermarket chains with its Farmhouse range of cheeses and butter products. Traditionally, the art of cheese making was a laborious, time consuming operation and although the original recipe is still used, the process has been transformed to a streamlined efficient large scale production with gleaming polished stainless steel and modern day plant technology.

With Wyke Farms’ commitment to meet growing quotas for major national supermarket outlets, a new production area was needed quickly to enable the company to keep up with demand. Wyke Farms chose a reputable local firm, Dunford Builders, to undertake construction of a new warehouse, where the additional cheese processing and storage capacity would be accommodated. When it came to choosing and designing a suitable drainage system for this time-critical project, the off-the-shelf, Modular 125 from ACO Building Drainage proved to be the perfect solution.

The Modular 125 is a robust, linear channel drainage system manufactured in stainless steel which offers a variety of lengths, inverts and gratings. The system has been rigorously tested and classified under industry recognised standard for drainage BS EN 1433 and meets key performance criteria in load bearing capacity up to C250 (25 tonnes) as well as water tightness and durability. Design features that set the Modular 125 system apart include the V-profiled channel for optimum flow capacity at low flow rates, as well as debris collecting sieves and baskets, all important features for hygienic food processing environments. In addition, stainless steel gullies incorporating foul air traps were specified for this installation.

As the system is held in stock, immediate delivery was possible, allowing Dunford Builders to install the system without the delays typically associated with specially manufactured parts. This enabled the whole project to be completed successfully on time and for Wyke Farms to continue operations without disruption. Matthew Cornish, Project Manager of Dunford Builders commented, “As a member of the Federation of Master Builders we’re committed to outlining a plan for our customers with phases of the build and ultimately completion date. Now that Wyke Farms has a new warehouse, even more award winning cheddar cheese can be savoured by many more people for generations to come.
