Aluminium & Cast Iron Rainwater Systems.
Alumasc is the UK´s leading manufacturer of BBA-certified aluminium rainwater goods and integrated fascias and soffits. The company also supplies Apex cast iron rainwater goods, the renowned Harmer drainage range which includes aluminium roof, floor and shower outlets and the BS EN 877 compliant Harmer SML lightweight cast-iron soil and waste system.
New from Alumasc is the Harmer Kessel rainwater harvesting system which facilitates the integrated design of overall rainwater management and storm attenuation packages. This wide range of proven, competitive solutions allow savings of up to 50% on non-drinking water usage. The new British Standard BS 8515 heralds the use of rainwater systems as a more mainstream element of construction, contributing to the efficiency and environmental success of individual schemes and helping developers meet the requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Harmer Drainage Systems
Alumasc’s Harmer range provides a single source for innovative drainage solutions that are designed to perform, engineered to last.
For rainwater drainage, Harmer systems provide a total solution from roof outlet to below ground drainage. For internal drainage, Harmer cast iron soil and waste systems, floor drains, shower drains and wetroom ranges provide a total solution from connection of plumbing fittings to link with the underground sewer.
Green Roofs.
Alumasc ZinCo green roof systems can be applied to the majority of roof structures and are backed up by alternative waterproofing systems to provide a complete green roofing solution. ZinCo Green roofs are available in four broad application categories; Intensive, Semi Intensive, Extensive and Bio-diverse, depending on the use and level of irrigation and maintenance access available.
Alumasc green roofs offer warranted systems for building developers, owners and users, benefiting the wider environment through their positive impact on sustainability, biodiversity and the attenuation of storm water.
Flat Roofing & Waterproofing Systems.
Alumasc flat roofing and waterproofing systems consist of internationally renowned brands Derbigum and Hydrotech.
Derbigum is a BBA-approved range of dual-reinforced, atactic polypropylene (APP) modified bitumen, high performance roofing and waterproofing membranes with a life expectancy of 30-35 years, verified by independent assessment. Enhanced performance properties include flexibility, excellent fire ratings, stronger reinforcement and ease of application.
Derbibrite, from the Derbigum family, is a revolutionary ‘cool roof’ waterproofing membrane with a highly reflective, acrylic top coat which helps reduce the urban heat island effect of buildings, lowers internal building temperatures and is formulated to allow direct bonding of photovoltaic panels.
Hydrotech is a self-healing monolithic structural waterproofing system, manufactured using up to 25% post-consumer waste. It has a proven track record for use on protected roofs, plaza decks, green roofs, water features or access roadways. Hydrotech is fully warranted, BBA approved and has European Technical Approval ETA-05/0152.
External Wall Insulating Render Systems.
Alumasc’s BBA approved, fully warranted external rendered wall insulation systems are available with a choice of insulating material and render facings. The range of available finishes includes silicone renders, polymer-modified renders and brick slip systems.
Cork panels can be used within external wall insulation systems to provide a natural insulator that contributes to a high performance façade. Cork has the lowest embodied energy of all commonly used insulation materials and has an A rating in the Green Guide to Specification for maximum benefit in BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes assessments.
Sustainable Building Exterior Systems.
Alumasc pursues sustainability throughout its full range of products and services via accreditation to the ISO 14001:2004 environmental management standard.
Alumasc operates a quality management system, independently audited to BS EN ISO 9001:2000.
Individual products and systems are certified by the British Board of Agrément and where appropriate have equivalent European/US accreditation.

Alumasc Provides Green Roof for Pioneering Eco-Spa
June 2011
Alumasc has provided a stunning ZinCo green roof for Coworth Park Hotel Spa, the ‘ground breaking’ new eco-luxury spa opened by the Dorchester Collection. The luxurious spa is situated in Ascot on the borders of Windsor Great Park, buried within the natural contours of the landscape. The building is camouflaged by the ZinCo green roof which is also being used to cultivate thyme, lavender, chamomile and other fragrant herbs for use in natural treatments at the Spa.
The pioneering design by architects, Purcell Miller Tritton, has kept the building's volume and footprint to a minimum whilst intimately relating the spa to its sensitive green belt setting.
Throughout the design and installation, Alumasc liaised closely with Purcell Miller Tritton to find the optimum solution for the unique semi circular design of the Spa’s pitched curved roof. A total of 700m² of extensive and semi-intensive green roof systems were installed by M&J Flat Roofing over a Derbigum Warm Roof waterproofing system, also from Alumasc. Derbigum is a high performance membrane which was specified for its exceptional long-term performance and durability.
Derbigum is BBA Approved and manufactured under the ISO 14001:2004 and EMAS Environmental Management Standards. The Coworth Spa roof garden is the perfect example of the range of landscapes that can be created using ZinCo green roofs. The semi-intensive system is ideal for creating a varied planting scheme that can include shrubs and woody plants, yet still has a low build-up. Semi-intensive systems are suited to interactive roof gardens that need all-year-round colour and limited but scheduled maintenance and irrigation. The extensive areas of the roof require only minimal maintenance.
Alumasc provides green roofs to suit virtually any type of landscape, including biodiverse systems and intensive roofs suited for areas of public and recreational use. All ZinCo green roof types offer notable
ecological benefits, providing a natural habitat for plants and wildlife, while helping to reduce air and noise pollution, cutting carbon emissions and assisting with rainwater retention and attenuation.
The main contractor at Coworth Park was Galliford Try Construction South.

Heritage rainwater system used for Victorian park
June 2011
Alumasc’s Heritage Cast Aluminium Rainwater system has provided the perfect solution for the restoration of a 19th Century Victorian Park in South Tyneside.
The £5m improvement project at South Marine Park has been carried out sympathetically by South Tyneside Council using historic photographs of the original park as a reference. The seafront park has been restored to its former glory thanks to an intensive programme of works supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, including a new children's play area, reinstatement of the terrace and bandstands and refurbishment of the rock garden, statues, miniature railway and boathouse.
Alumasc’s Heritage Cast Aluminium rainwater system was chosen for the new public facilities building, to replicate the original cast iron systems used in the rest of the park. STP Construction installed a Heritage Half Round gutter system with Heritage Circular downpipes in red to achieve the desired effect.
Heritage is a comprehensive range of traditional gutter profiles, round, square and rectangular pipes and all associated fittings and accessories. Manufactured using modern casting techniques, the Heritage range is designed to provide all the essential architectural features appropriate to traditionally designed buildings.
A choice of BBA approved polyester powder coatings is available in 16 standard colours with BS or RAL colours available to special order. The range can be supplied to resemble cast iron surface texture or is available in plain mill finish for on-site painting. Heritage is lightweight, durable and non-corrodible, with up to 25 years life expectancy in marine/industrial environments and 40 years in rural/suburban sites. The system is easy to handle and fix, with minimal maintenance requirements.
In accordance with Alumasc’s environmental policy, Aluminium is 100% recyclable.
