Quick turnaround on large scale regeneration

Redland provides quick turnaround on large scale regeneration project
The ability to provide a comprehensive technical specification, fast, was a key factor in the specification of Redland products for a large scale roofing project in Lewisham. Specifying in this way using exclusively Redland products means completed roofs benefit from the company’s 15 year guarantee.
This is one of a number of projects Redland has worked on with main contractor Apollo. Peter Beckensall, The Apollo Group, said: “Redland is able to provide us with a totally reliable specification service and the expertise behind that is what we are looking for. In this case, the fact that Redland was able to provide that service to a very tight timeframe was a significant help.”
The £1.8million Grove Park project was carried out as part of an upgrade to L&Q Group’s housing stock and comprises more than 80 homes and 22 blocks of flats.
Redland Double Roman 50, Duo Plain and Cambrian tiles were selected for the homes, being a good match for the style of the existing 1930s terraced houses. Redland Duo Plain tiles were also used on the flats to keep the appearance consistent.
Both the homes and flats make use of Redland’s dry fix systems. As new tiles were fixed to existing timbers, a reduction in the weight these timbers had to bear was an important consideration. Using dry fix helped meet this need, being significantly lighter than wet mortar, whilst also providing long term performance benefits popular with local authority projects and Registered Social Landlords.

Redland’s carbon reduction plan takes a big step forward
Monier Redland’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of its manufacturing processes is being demonstrated by the installation of a wind turbine with the capacity to fully power the whole of the company’s Rassau plant in South Wales.
The £1.5million installation is a joint project between Monier Redland Ltd and a new company, Alto Prodotto Wind. It is the first of five wind turbines to be funded and installed across the UK by the new company. The project is now complete and fully commissioned.
At its most efficient, the new PowerWind 500 KW wind turbine will be powerful enough to supply sufficient electricity to fully power the plant. Following Met Office forecasts for wind speeds across the year it is predicted that the wind turbine will provide the plant with one third of its entire annual electricity usage, offsetting up to 740 tonnes of CO2 per year.
When the plant is not in use, power generated will be directed back to the national grid, providing additional energy to be distributed across the area.
Nick Payne, Monier Redland Ltd Rassau Plant Manager, said: “We are proud to be working on the first wind turbine project with Alto Prodotto Wind. The installation of the turbine is the culmination of five years’ planning and we see it as a significant step forward in our objective to reduce the carbon emissions associated with our manufacturing activity.”
