LIGNACITE LTD
Suppliers of: Concrete Blocks Masonry Blocks Dense Concrete Blocks Cast Stone blocks facing Blocks Concrete Blocks Concrete Soffit Blocks concrete
As a leading manufacturer of concrete and masonry products, Lignacite has one of the most efficient and modern manufacturing sites in the U.K. The company has become renowned for its range of specialist facing masonry, and has a long established range of standard blocks.
Lignacite is setting standards for sustainable and environmentally sensitive manufacturing. Curing chambers re-use heat given off by the exothermic reaction between cement and water. When additional heat is needed, gas emissions are pumped back into the chambers, where blocks absorb CO2. All water used at Brandon comes from a borehole on site, and is recycled at up to 5000 gallons / hour. Sand and aggregate quarried on land adjacent to the plant will save around 36,000 lorry journeys over the period of extraction, the land being restored on an annual basis for wildlife conservation.
All products conform to BS EN 771-3 Aggregate Concrete Masonry Units and are manufactured under a quality assurance scheme certified to BS EN 9001:2000.
Lignacite’s Facing Masonry offers a cost-effective alternative to natural materials.
Original Facing Masonry combines inherent, decorative appeal with strength and durability in a range of finishes, thicknesses and strengths, in solid, hollow and cellular form.
Premier Facing Masonry combines a smooth, close textured, decorative finish with a fine texture to create a clean, crisp edge that enhances design details.
Weathered Facing Masonry has a flat surface with a fine natural aggregate texture which is emphasised to produce a softly rounded, almost pre-weathered finish.
Lignacite’s Standard range of medium density, load bearing blocks is used for plastering, rendering and painting. Recycled materials are used as aggregates where possible. In our unique, ’Lignacite’ block, graded wood particles provide excellent acoustic performance and the robustness of a dense block. Other recycled materials used include furnace bottom ash, glass and china clay sand.

Blackpool says I Do to Glow in the dark blocks
September 2011
Lignacite Glow in the Dark blocks have been specified by dRMM for the £2.7m Blackpool Festival House, dubbed the 'Chapel of Love'. Close to the North Pier and below Blackpool Tower, it is the first building to be built on the Golden Mile for many years. It forms part of the £14.3m Tower Festival Headland redevelopment and stands on a stepped concrete plinth. The blocks, which are made using recycled and phosphorescent glass, have been used to provide the building’s outer facing.
Powder coated glass used in the blocks captures light and enables them to emit a soft glow for up to 8 hours. In combination with gold stainless steel shingles, they provide a focal point for a low carbon emission building which also houses a beach café, restaurant and tourist information centre.
Five Olympic successes for Lignacite
May 2011
Lignacite masonry has swept the board for the London Olympics and Paralympics having been specified for:-
• The Olympic Stadium
• The Velodrome
• The Handball Arena
• The Media Centre
• The Athlete's Village
- giving Lignacite more medals than any other manufacturer at the Games.
In particular, Lignacite developed a unique, highly decorative facing masonry block with Architects dRMM for use on the Athlete's Village project. Using 37% recycled glass, the block is available in a Polished or Planished finish. It has been designed to be highly durable and therefore suitable for flooring or exposed elevations. The revolutionary new product is eco-friendly, durable and provides a highly attractive finish. It is just one of a number of concrete block innovations to which Lignacite can lay claim as it pioneers the field of block design and manufacturing. The company’s responsible sourcing, environmental practices and use of recycled raw materials is supported by the highest standards of environmental performance. Compliance with ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System (EMS) was independently certified by BSI and provides the basis for demonstrating compliance with the responsible sourcing requirements of BREEAM/The Code for Sustainable Homes.
