TS 93 DOOR CLOSERS INSTALLED AT FLAGSHIP WATERSIDE DEVELOPMENT

TS 93 DOOR CLOSERS INSTALLED AT FLAGSHIP WATERSIDE DEVELOPMENT
Ergonomically designed to combine sustainability with spectacular aesthetics, the Boathouse Business Centre in Cambridgeshire is a stunning example of contemporary design and construction. Built to accommodate a range of dynamic, forward-thinking businesses, every aspect of the project needed to be modern, stylish and high specification. For the building’s internal door closers, DORMA TS 93 cam action door closers proved the natural solution.
Located in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, on a waterside site that has lain derelict for 20 years, the Boathouse Business Centre was commissioned by Fenland District Council and designed by architects Feilden and Mawson LLP. The building forms the focal point of a £40 million redevelopment of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
The iconic, three storey building, built in the shape of a boat, offers 38 individual high quality office units ranging from 20m2 to 70m2 in size as well as the Port Authority offices, meeting rooms, yacht club, changing facilities, cafeteria and ancillary accommodation.
Built by main contractor Kier, specialist glazing contractor Wrightstyle was appointed to install the comprehensive glazing systems along with the internal fire doors that would meet the high specification of the architects’ design. As part of this, Wrightstyle were tasked with installing all of the building’s door controls.
With its compact dimensions, versatile design and concealed fixings, the DORMA TS 93 door closer system proved ideal for use on the multiple office entrances and fire doors located across both floors throughout the building.
Unlike rack and pinion door closers, the DORMA TS 93 system uses a linear drive mechanism and heart-shaped cam to ensure resistance encountered when opening the door decreases virtually instantly with the opening action. The rapidly decreasing opening force ensures that each door can be opened easily, thus offering ease of use for all users, as well as improved disabled access. DORMA TS 93 cam action door closers also hold successful independent testing to BS EN 1154, and are CERTIFIRE approved for fire doors, making them the perfect choice for public-use buildings.
Designed to meet all security, health and safety requirements and compliance, the DORMA TS 93 cam action door closer is the ideal solution for buildings with a regular traffic flow. By offering minimal resistance throughout the opening and closing cycle, TS 93 door closers also make door operations much safer and more reliable – perfect for the busy office environment.
Now complete and occupied by several innovative businesses of various sizes, the Boathouse Business Centre has been recognised for its progressive design with a commendation at the RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) Awards. With the help of DORMA’s TS 93 cam action door closers, the new Boathouse building has been able to breathe new life into an area of Cambridgeshire by providing a home for innovative new businesses as well as leisure facilities for the local community.

DORMA DOORS ENSURE ADIDAS OPEN FOR BUSINESS

DORMA AUTOMATIC DOORS ENSURE ADIDAS OPEN FOR BUSINESS AT FLAGSHIP LONDON STORE
When global leading sporting brand Adidas decided to rebrand and refit a flagship store in London, it was essential the entire retail experience was second to none and that had to start with the entrance on busy Oxford Street. With constant foot traffic, performance and durability were of utmost importance, as were striking aesthetics. For these reasons, automatic curved sliding doors from DORMA, the global market leader of door controls, automatics, glass and movable walls, were specified.
With the 1800m2 interior designed by New Store Europe, the entrance had to not only give a positive first impression and clear statement of the company’s image but would also allow a smooth flow of traffic. DORMA BST automatic curved segmental sliding doors met the brief and offered the client the highest standards of design, functionality and comfort. Complete with the reliable DORMA ES curved sliding door operator, the sliding leaves are made of clear glass while the side panels have been specified in black glass to tie in with the rest of the frontage.
As part of their commitment to sustainability and creating a comfortable interior, DORMA sliding doors open and close efficiently to help buildings maintain their internal temperatures, therefore keeping heating and cooling costs down.
When it comes to the specification and installation of customer entrance doors in retail stores, special considerations must be given to the doors’ operation, reliability and safety. They must not only ensure that the building is secure, but also contribute to the overall design of the building. Building owners must also consider the long term maintenance costs and operational features when specifying a door system.
‘The curved sliding doors fitted in with the character of the building and were specified in a black finish to tie in with the trademark black colour of Adidas,’ commented Andy Smolinski of New Store Europe. ‘It was also vital that the doors had the ability to hold open during the summer months and in winter automatically open and close to reduce heat loss from the store.’
Automatic swing and sliding door operators can help to increase traffic flow whilst also ensuring simple and efficient access for all users, including elderly and disabled patrons. Sliding doors are often the most popular choices at store entrances as they allow the most efficient access for all customers, as well as staff members.
As in the case of all components and systems from the DORMA portfolio, DORMA
BST automatic curved sliding doors excel in reliability and user convenience. The self-learning microprocessor control unit keeps the system running smoothly and reliably. Combining with the integrated presence sensor, it also ensures maximum operational safety.
With the store now open, the stylish door closers further enhance the building’s stunning contemporary aesthetic. Thanks to the high quality, high performance automatic sliding doors provided by DORMA, the Adidas store provides safe, smooth and reliable access to customers and staff.
