POWER ACCESS SYSTEMS ENJOYING STUDENT LIFE

Located in the Bloomsbury Conservation Area near King’s Cross, Cartwright Gardens previously provided 1,013 student rooms but this has now been increased to 1,200 with the completion of the new UCL Garden Halls. The existing buildings, with the exclusion of the 14-storey Hughes Parry Tower, were demolished and replaced with a new building by Multiplex. The new structure was formed from an in-situ concrete frame with brick-faced concrete cladding panels on all external elevations while two new internal courtyards feature a render finish. The private gardens were also redeveloped and four new tennis courts were installed.

Power Access Systems was contracted to design and install an extensive ‘Mansafe’ safety wire system at roof level combined with almost 150 specially designed anchor posts fixed along the perimeter of the external elevations and courtyards to enable rope access workers (abseilers) to access all facades. The system was used extensively during construction of the building and will be used for future maintenance and cleaning of the facades.

This is one of many bespoke access and safety systems that Power Access Systems has installed since 1983.
